End of the World. Beginning of a new one. The Life of Amberwolf.

Congrats Amber - that is GREAT news :D I am so happy for you.

First load of boxes to put in the house is loaded up in the truck, just waiting for me and Bill to feel up to doing something about it:

This is another 1/4 of what's left to move (the boxes in the middle, the stack at the end of the wooden bench, and the blankets forming my "tent" behind the bench).

Then there's the mini-deep freeze, the Nishiki and a box in their shed, my music stuff and some boxes still up in the loft, the mattress, Delta Tripper, and some other assorted odds and ends. CrazyBIke2 and Tiny's trailer will go under power there, most likley as the last things, but not for several days yet, at least. (and the stuff behind the bench won't go yet, either, nor the deepfreeze or Delta Tripper).

Also, a "self-portrait" pic of me and Tiny, from yesterday when it was cloudy, here at Bill's. I'm working on the big bushy recumbent-rider beard now, and maybe a handlebar mustache. ;)

Second load today, but that's all so far. I've got a bad head cold and feel pretty miserable, so that's all I could manage. Bill's back went out so no lifting for him, all he did was driving. I wasn't really sure I was gonna finish unloading at the house, but pushed onward til it was done.

Then we put up some boards over the bent-in fence area on the carport, which was so open it basically let anyone walk in or out of the backyard, since they took down the tall construction fencing around the whole house sometime in the days just prior to me taking hte first load over yesterday. Landlord still has to fix that and other fence issues, but until he can get there to do that I figured the temporary stuff would at least deter some looters, and make others take a moment more to break thru to get in, maybe making enough noise to attract unwanted attention.

I meant ot take pics but I forgot cmopletely, all I could think of while doing it all was tha I wanted to go back to bed. :(

Gotta work next two days so problaby no loads then, maybe Wed my next day off. Dunno about thu-sat, working those days too. Figiure i got at least one more load we can take of stuff i don't need here and that i don't feel completely uncomfortable with leaving there unattended (even in the house it's not really safe, cuz I don't trust the work crew any more than the looters at this point, and the looters could easily break into the house, of course).

Then there are probably two loads (because of delta tripper, mostly) left of stuff to take over, once I will actually be living there again.

Some "good" news: The landlord has provided a used stove and refrigerator, so at least I don't have to immediately fix mine in order to store and cook food.

Some "bad" news: the two-sink kitchen sink didn't get installed; I guess the cabinetry wasn't wide enough? So there is only a single sink. I think it's a bit deeper, which is good, but it was a huge help sometimes to have a double sink in there. I intend to ask if I can keep the double sink to install into my own cabinet into the utility room, to use for cleanup/etc, at least until I can locate the same kind of big deep fiberglass sink that was in there before (as that is another thing that seems to have disappeared). I'm going to assume the answer is "no", though, and keep looking for alternatives. Maybe have to make my own; not sure how yet.

My hat is off to your friend, BILL. Seems like he was the only one to stick with you. 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)

Very soon, you can sit and relax a little, without worrying about bothering anyone else.

Best of luck getting settled in.

Harold

I'm so happy to hear your ordeal is nearing the end. The new beginning is an ordeal too, but a happier one. It will be hard to adjust to the new stuff, and the old stuff you liked being gone. But you will like being home enough to adjust eventually.

You look good with that beard! I can see how much Tiny loves you in that pic too.

I'm very glad about the move, and you and Tiny look good together.

Man am I glad to hear you are moving home!! Whooppee!!!

... btw, Tiny's got a really big noggin!

Hats off to Bill also. What a friend you have in him. There from the beginning.

Not home yet. :(

Still waiting on power, I guess. Haven't heard from landlord on how the final city inspection went, either.

So we're still at "soon", with no definite move-back-in date. Basically the same limbo I have been in for the last month.

Bill and I moved a couple more things to the house today. Landlord was there fixing a few piddly things the city inspector didn't like, truly nitpicky stuff. Once the house is re-inspected then SRP can hook up the power line and meter, and I can move back in.

There's "landscaping" to be done, still, but he said they'll do that after I'm already there since it's all outside. I am not sure I like the sound of it, cuz I like the way things are already, and I don't want to lose any more of my trees/etc than I already have. But they will be "grinding down" the old stump from the evergreen that was cut down in the front, and planting a new (unspecified type ./ size) tree there. I don't know if that means I lose the last of the lantana and other trees there, though. If it does I would like the chance to move them to the backyard before they are destroyed. Since I should be there when it is happening I might be able to do that.

Fence repairs still not done yet either but I can do those myself if it ends up being something delaying my move-in.

A neighbor said he's got some old furniture (chair, couch, couple of recliners) to bring over now that I'm moving back in; that will help make the house more like home.

Gotta get some area rugs; hvaen't found any affordable ones at thrift stores yet. Saw some at a yard sale cheap a little while back but they smelled horrible, like cat pee and mold and mildew; I might be able to save them but probably not, so I didn't buy them.

I also discussed how much it would cost for a 6-foot high block wall around the whole backyard, to replace the chainlink that's there right now. Off-the-cuff guess is around $6000, about $26/linear foot. I don't have anywhere near that much, so it won't happen anytime soon (could be years to save that up), but the landlord is ok with it if I do want to do it and I can come up with the money for it. It would help with keeping people seeing stuff in the yard they might want to steal, or complain to the city about, and also keep whatever dog(s) I have from being as prone to seeeing and barking at people/kids/etc., or other people's dogs seeing me/my dogs and barking at us when we're outside.

Would also provide a teeny bit of windbreak on those really stormy days, and also provide enough shade in the morning in summer to allow stuff to actually grow on the east side of the yard, which has been next to impossible with just the chainlink there.

Anyway, I'm still stuck at "soon" for moving back in. :(

See a dot above the words on your hat. Is that a camera? Does the camera run all the time? Are you making a movie called - The Story Of My Life?
Wish it was a camera sometimes, but no, it's just a light, so one can see the poopy one is picking up at night without having to hold a flashlight in one hand and a baggie in the other and a leash in my teeth (well, gums, anyway).

Hat was like a buck or less at Goodwill, several months ago.

No news on the house yet.

house passed city inspection today, so now just waiting on SRP to hook up power. Theoretically that means I should be able to move in this weekend, but I'm still not holding my breath. Landlord will let me know as soon as move-in is confirmed.

Found a dining table / work table made of real wood, Very much like the one I used to have in the kitchen, except this one still has it's legs. This link has some old pics of the old one, which I *might* still have the top of, in unknown condition after being out in the yard for the last 3/4 of a year since the fire:
http://www.endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=14193&hilit=cfl#p212402

I don't have pics of the new one yet, I didn't think to take them when we moved it to the house today from Goodwill. Was only $30, which while it's more htan I want to spend, I don't run across relatively inexpensive real wood furniture very often, especially in pretty good condition like this one is.

I'm still trying to find lots of heavy blankets and pillows, cuz I like to pile up smaller denser-packed pillows around me for sleeping or laying down resting/reading/etc, to make myself comfortable, rather than big fluffy pillows. And layering thick heavy blankets (when it's cold enough) makes it easier to sleep, especially without the multiple dogs to curl up around me, and since Tiny doesn't usually stay on the bed itself that much, preferring to sleep on the cooler hard floors. Plus the blankets are also useful for padding cargo on trailers and such, depending on what I'm hauling.

But Goodwill and other thrift stores have raised their prices a lot: $20-$30 isn't uncommon for the blankets I'm looking for, and some are a lot more than that. :( $10-$15 is about the cheapest they're ever at nowadays, unless I get lucky and find the right one on one of the dollar days or the 50%-off sale days, which is very rare nowadays.

Also hard to find the right size jeans or other pants, and I've inflated around the middle enough this last 3/4 year (from depression eating, and from eating convenience food instead of good food, being without my kitchen, storage for sales on food, lack of time, etc). Used to wear 30-32 waist depending on brand, now it's more like 33-35". :( I think my best-fitting ones are a stretch-fit 16W women's jeans, but I haven't found any of those at all. Most of the ones I find in mens in that size are torn or stained, so I can't use them for work (which is mostly what I want them for, but also cuz I prefer jeans to regular pants; the'yre tougher and I am hard on clothes).

I'm sure I could find them at regular stores, but typically cost is several times what thrift stores have them for. :(

Finally.

Landlord let me know about midday that the house is finally done, power is hooked up, and I can move back in whenever i am ready to.

Which would be right at that moment, but I was on my wya to work, for a shift to closing time. :(

Would've been after work, but I was so exhausted (still am, having dozed a couple times but woken from nightmares each time, and now not able to get back to sleep again) there was just no way I could pack up all my sleeping stuff (lbankets, pillows, etc) and take it down there in Tiny's trailer and on hte bike, then get my remaining clothes and stuff I'd need to get ready for work the next day, go down for a nother trip there and back, and then take Tiny down there, then set up a sleeping area, etc., before finally collapsing into bed. Just wasn't gonna happen--it'd've probably taken till 2-3am at earliest to do all that, and I know I can't function that long right now.

So...tomorrow morning Bill and I will move all that critical stuff over there, and then I will go to work for another midday-to-closing shift, then come back to Bill's after work and take Tiny home with me, since i won't have to do anything Saturday at any particular time; just that some time saturday I would finish up movning stuff back home with Bill's help.

Then i work Sunday thru Tuesday, and then should have off Wed thru Sat (maybe thru sun if I'm lucky) to try to settle in for real.

I'm still not home yet...but it is all but accomplished now.

Then there is "only" the long tedious work of cleaning up the things I have left, moving htem back inside for household items, and organizing them in the sheds for the other stuff. That is probably a months-long, maybe years-long, project, at the rate I am able to do things these days.

Then I can get back to trying to work on what projects I still have left that werent' destroyed (lots of stuff was in that room that burned) or stolen (lots more stuff taken by looters and workers, some tossed out in realization I would never be able to work on it). Though I expect quite a few of the projects I still have left will require re-acquiring parts for them that I no longer have for the above reasons.

Still...I'm practically home, now. Finally.

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Once you are home, take your sweet time getting settled back in. The looters will catch on quick that you are back, so enjoy having some space in the house again.

Concentrate on the things that you will enjoy the most, rather than feel pressured to get everything back in the house. You need a break, rather than a marathon of moving back in work. Just get the stuff you took to Bills back in the house for now.

Of course, some of the stuff that will make you happy is getting back to projects. But seriously, de stress a little bit first with your dog before you dive into those sheds. You have had a long hard road, and need to relax into the house a bit before trying to move it all back in.

Let me know when you are ready to really dig into the sheds. I'd like to try to come help.

Glad to see you are nearing the journeys end. What a trip it has been for you.

Fully agree with the Dogman.

What a journey Amber! So glad to hear that you are finally back home. As others said, you and Tiny enjoy the empty, then make it just how you want... So many new possibilities when starting from scratch.

I'm really happy for you amber. :D At this point everything can move forward, instead of churning in limbo. I hope peaceful sleeps are right around the corner.

Had a bad day, this news has cheered me up, glad to hear you got your digs backs.
