Oregon has an organization for studying and promoting electric vehicle use:

I have gotten to borrow an all electric RAV4 SUV for a few days to test out from the organization. The car has good road manners, can easily keep up with traffic and has different options for regenerative braking. The range is ~ 60+ miles (has 22,000+ miles on odometer).

I hope to try out other vehicles that the organization will be testing. They are very engaged with the planning for urban EV use and there are some very interesting and large trial projects coming to Portland - charging stations, networking events for EV industries, battery research, and many EV related traffic studies:

Portland is really beginning to show strong leadership in developing the needed infrastructure for large scale EV use.
