As expected, Evolve is trying to keep a tight lid on this by telling the customers to not post their experiences online. I know because I was one. After speaking with some other members on this user based Evolve group page here - https://www.facebook.com/groups/evolveowners/

I found out that I was not the only one with issues. Mostly, these issue stem from the Evolve USA Distributor. The fault is said to lie with their quality control. Even the board I purchased at $2,050.00 for the Carbon All Terrain 2 x 1, arrived with TWO stripped screws as well as other drilled in crooked on the battery cover. If their team can't tighten a couple screws correctly, then what else do you think is going to arise?

If you have information or an experience, I would love to hear it. Below you can find mine as well as another board that I am aware of this happening too. And some other issues members have discussed with me.

As of now, I have been fully refunded for the price of the board and shipping after some struggle's.

That sucks... How many people has that happened too?

Not impossible to happen.

Something we should all understand these boards are still fairly cheap and most of it is made in China. These battery packs are made in China and testing them does require time.

If Evolve is to test these packs as soon as they receive them it would require additional time which would increase the cost of the board.

I think as long as they completely refund or replace your purchase and throw in some extras for your time wasted. It would be great customer service.

They'll eventually fix the issue. Seems like a bad batch from their own suppliers.

Someone skipped a step.. Guess an Aluminum Longboard would help

that fire was most likely started when those paralleling wires shorted to each other. what is so stupid is that the paralleling wire does not have to be 12AWG as in that picture. they can be as small as 26AWG and still balance all the packs and if they were smaller then when it had shorted to the adjacent parallel cable the short would have burned open circuit and stopped the discharge so no fire would have resulted.

all because of the mistaken idea that the parallel connections have to be large conductors. it is as though they never had any instruction in physics of EE.

I saw this. It's happened to you and another guy right? I also saw the Facebook post from one of you yesterday that mysteriously disappeared.

It seems like Evolve is a great product but this is not the first I've heard of USA specific issues.

someone should talk to them and explain to them why they are failing. it seems obvious to me, but they may not understand about the big paralleling wires that are shorting. it is something they can change to reduce the risk of fire significantly just by better engineering design and using wires for the parallel connection that will fuse open when they short.

Also in case they end up reading this...

When you mess up and your product is on fire on youtube, and you might be facing an industry wide recall, and all the social networks are worried sick that their product is defective, and the authorities, airlineas and busses forbid the transport of electric skateboards cuase they spontaneously light aflame, and you are getting blasted in the forums, and they have taped you sneakily asking them to cover up the story.....

dont bitch about the $50 bucks shipping that make your already pissed of customer want to frock you over......

just a thought...

Agreed. I don't think we need any more reason to use aluminum enclosures. And to use to a safer battery (they're using 36v10ah lipos). I know accidents can still happen, but at least it will be contained. Evolve is apparently still selling them. Shouldn't they have pulled it from their site?

On a more positive note: their transmitter is sleek! How is it to use, UrNzWy? I'm curious how much range of motion the trigger has vs RC pistol grips.

no product is 100% and there will be bad units, this would be a huge problem if the unit goes ablaze while charging when no one is around.

i am sorry. but that is the responsibility of the engineer who designed this and has ultimately the legal responsibility for it.

it is a bad design and is totally unnecessary to have those huge cable running across the top of the lipo packs like that. i saw one of the guys on here had built a pack identical to it with the big wires that connected the individual packs together in parallel. he does not even understand why the wires do not have to be huge like that. totally over his head because he has no EE training or even basic physics training.

that is a major design error. i cannot imagine how the production engineer allowed it to be built like that.

It looks like they succeeded in silencing you after all.

Cheers,

Peter

So for us idiots....what just happened here...?
Deleted..taken off..censored?..was the guy wacked?

I had a feeling about this last night, so instead of just linking the content to the 2014 Fires thread:
http://www.endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=56305&p=973679
If anyone needs to reference it it's there.

(I couldn't get the videos, though)

Sucks he had to take it down but the info is still out there. Personally I think most people would feel safer on something that they hand built but accidents do happen. Glad you're okay!

The pictures your talking about i dont see anymore but are you saying the battery wires are thicker than they need to be? I can imagine a thinner wire would melt down and break the connection and that would be good safety feature but, if we're talking about battery wires, thicker wires would be more efficient and save a couple watts right? I imagine we must be talking about the battery wires though because 12awg is pretty big.

On the topic of a battery shorting against itself, I had two 3s packs 5ah that a kid I teach plugged into each other. I should've had them in a safer place.
I read that inside a lipo there is effectively a fuse, or place that will burn out and cut the curcuit, and it tripped in this case...luckily. What exactly happens when a short occurs? In my mind you have electrons flying as quickly across the connection as allowed, i guess based on the c rating and thickness of the connection, and I guess it's too much too fast?

Balance / parallel wires, AFAIU. So thinner is fine--shouldn't be any current in them anyway except during BMS or charger balance mode.

Is there going to be a separate thread for the conspiracy theories?

I for one say he got wacked...

This has all the ingredients of a mob hit..
sk8norcal and phomann maybe you should leave town and lay low for a while

Hey guys, I didn't get whacked but thanks for the concern!

I had a very long chat with the U.S. distrubutor and while a member of his staff handled the situation completely wrong and was an ass to boot. He Acknowledged this fact and apologized on the company's behalf.

I was not paid off nor did I receive a new board. I got my refund and that's that. He ended the conversation by saying if I'd ever like to give a evolve board another go. Just to give him a call. From the way he handled the call, I chose to remove my previous content. And at no point did he ask to have it removed. As a smaller business owner, perhaps i sympathized with him a bit.

They are currently taking steps to try and make sure this doesn't happen again. A loose connection on the bms was said to be the fault. What are your thoughts?

Can you prve you are the real UrNzWy...and not just someone the mob put in his place

Good to hear you are OK... With the cash reimbursed and this forum`s help you can "evolve" into a new faster cool board..
albeit equally flammable LOL
