Ezee electric problems

I bought a used E-bike. It's a Ezee (EVG ) for $150.00 . Probably about 3 years old. The seller told me it needs a new battery and was otherwise "dead". I noticed that when you turned the "ON" switch, the lights on the bike would momentarily flash and then immediately go "dead" again.

Otherwise, there was no sign of life at all. No lights, no horn, no motor, no bat reserve lights.....nothing.

I bought the bike, took it home and put it on the charger. It fully charged-up in about 4 hours (to 42 volts). It's still "dead" though.

So I bought a new lead-acid battery at "Batteries-Plus" (for $130.00). Nothing changed.....The bike refused to come alive.

The bike came here from Florida and had minor traces of surface rust. Otherwise there is no visible damage or faults.

If you have any suggestions, thanks.

You could see if the controller is getting power, see if the fuse to it is burned out. You've eliminated the battery, now move upstream to the next thing..If power is getting to the controller, suspect the throttle, any switches, wiring, or motor connections. Use a volt ohm meter (VOM) if you have one. If not, may be woth the investment.

g'luck!

First guess would be a current limit in the controller shutting it all down as soon as it tries to startup. A bad capacitor or blown MOSFET could trigger that.

If you can open the controller case, you can look for physical signs of destroyed components.

Also possible there is a wire somewhere that is pinched and shorting against something else.

Water or salt could have gotten in somewhere and shorted something out with dried conductive deposits. Might only need to be cleaned off to fix.

which light? if the headlight comes on and then shuts off then go find where they get power and disconnect the other stuff until the light stays on or vice versa.

keep track of which loads you disconnected and where they go. sounds like a resetting fuse is opening up under a short and if you can find out what has shorted, then you might be able to go forward. find the fuse too.

You mentioned two different brands by my interpretation. so, is this one of WW's EZee's , or, one of Iacocca's EVGlobals?

If EVGlobal, we have schematics and manuals on line.

24v or 36v? The 36v motors are very resellable. $250 for one is a reasonable price for just the 36v motor. It sounds like you need a new controller perhaps. EVG controllers are hard to find, especially in 36v. If you put a generic controller on it, you may need to strip off most of the EVG stuff, and start over with a different throttle, etc.

Yes, the post confused me too. If it is an eZee, then there is some info available here http://users.tinyworld.co.uk/flecc/torq.html

The eZee controller has a LED that flashes when it diagnoses a problem. The number of flashes tells you what it thinks it wrong. There's a list in the link above. Some of the eZee models also have accessory boards and modules on the handlebars- these can cause problems if they get damp.

HTH,

Nick
