My boys both have Currie Ezip 750 scooters, 24V. Should I expect trouble with components (motor, controller) in pushing it up to 36V? I would be comfortable with a brushless setup, but IIRC, these are brushed motors, which I am not experienced with.

Thanks,

Cameron

I wouldn't ride one of those scooters with those little wheels myself much less put one of my kids on one. They're dangerous enough at 24V. death traps at 36V. Do your kids and yourself a favor and sell them and build (or buy) them an ebike.

Your 16 year old twin boys' scooters should be fine at 36v. When did people forget how to have fun? Geeeeeeeze you don't even know the story with these scooters or the age of the riders and you're lecturing this random guy. Sure keep your kids inside 24/7 where they are safe on the couch.. with the boob toob and the video games.

My boys (13 & 14) are just great on these scooters, they just saw their old (and I mean old) man up his bike from 36V to 48V, and they've got the itch. I just seem to remember something on these forums a while back (but couldn't find it on a search) that (may have) said Ezip motors and/or controllers had trouble handling 36V without melting, and I wanted to check with y'all.

I think 36v is not to hard on brushes, so I'd get different controllers and go for it. Assuming the boys are up to it that is. By that age, some boys would be backflipping a dirtbike.

The Schwinn/Currie S1000 is 1KW @36V. Pretty much the same rig as you will have.

They do go fast, for kickscoots w/seat.

Thanks, dogman and TylerDurden. They're up to it like you wouldn't believe. I figured that the 750 should take it, but better safe than sorry. I guess I'll get a plan together, I'm working on getting them to do as much of the planning as I can, so they'll be able to go it on their own before too long. AFAIC, the best way to understand anything is to climb in up to your elbows, then worry about the details (tweaks). (and I'd really like to investigate setting up an EV shop - weekends only, if possible - sometime in the future, but we'll have to move to a bigger city first. I'm thinking Atlanta would be a natural from what I've seen thereI'll have to get a day job there first. Anyone got any contacts at the CDC?)

You probably don't even need to upgrade the controllers. IIRC our 24v scooter was ok up to around 45 volts (11s lipo).

those curry controllers should hold up fine at 36v. i've overvolted several without a problem. you will loose your lvc. though.
