FarDriver “motor hall error”

Hey so I put a FarDriver in my bike and now after it was working for a while just fine- now it just cuts out and gives me this error when I try to throttle. If I set it to a ridiculously low speed it will go without any issues but that’s not even really deemed as usable considering I would have to go 10 mph. Does anyone know why this happening and what this is? I searched everywhere and could really use some help. Thanks

Many motors contain 3 x hall sensors that provide feedback info to the controller to aid the pulse delivery timing. Motors can get hot and heat can damage the hall sensors, visit the grin site at ebikes.ca and navigate to their HOW TO/Guides section for detailed info on testing hall sensors, When the faulty one has been identified it can be replaced easily, lots of youtube guides to follow..

Mine is a hub motor, I don’t know if it’s the motor or controller and I taped the whole thing shut with about 2 roles of tape to waterproof it to my bike. Do you think yo can help

How do I know if it’s hall sensors or controller though

you have to test one system at a time. Start with the Hall sensors.

A hall sensor error displayed is strong indication the hall sensors are playing up, why do you suspect the controller? The hall sensor test will identify any faulty hall sensors, Look at the grin guide suggested and linked to above and spend 5 minutes reading it. If the tests reveal no problems with the motor hall sensors then the cables and any connectors and even the controller can be suspected with more confidence.

Also what model of the Far-Drive do you have.

Nd7235 apparently it’s the red 48 to 72v one 35amp max

Dude I can’t test that shit because I just thought it was loose wires yesterday after all this and I undid it and put a new system in and re taped it and now it’s still not working and I don’t really wanna take it apart

So update: I put some lungs on the battery and phase connectors that connect to the controller. It doesn’t instantly cutout anymore but if I give it some hard throttle or randomly when I go from a stop it will cut out sometimes. I’m still freakin confused and mad

OK - so with the controller ruled out with its substitution. seems like testing to ID the faulty sensor or sensors is kinda inevitable now if you want to fix the problem..

er you have fully pushed together any 'waterproof connectors? ensuring the arrows kiss or lines connect???

What I did was take the whole tape contraption apart and put copper lungs on the phase wires and closed it up, maybe it works but disconnects cause the o shaped connector to the controller where you screw in was like just a tad too big?

While a badly fitting connector attaching the sensor inputs could indeed result in false error state reporting.

A methodical approach would be to FIRST confirm the sensors are in good working order,

Then to confirm that the connecting cables are in good condition and make good positive connections in any plugs/sockets.

Then if errors still persist in showing up THEN look at the controller..

Its a minor pita to set up the test and provide logic voltage to the motor sensors but thats a 5 minute pinout google and 3x aa batteries at almost 5v should suffice for a temp psu in a pinch.. granted a 3rd hand is always useful when testing not sat at a bench
but most can juggle holding 2x probes and spinning the motor wheel.

I tuned the settings down and it works fine maybe the wires are too small and add resistance as the original bike was meant for 20 amps max

sensors operate at logic level voltages, employing milliamps of power when working as expected

I've had a similar issue yesterday. It was the throttle. Either the cable or the throttle itself.
It only showed motor hall error.
Maybe check the live throttle voltage in the app.
