First Test 1000W Black Lightning Brushless, Geared hub motor

Are there torque curves for these motors? How does the max torque compare to the 600W BMC with torquey windings(V2-T)?

Anyone hear more about this? Is this a LiPo casualty? Glad everyone is OK, but I feel bad for them. I am disappointed, I was would have been interested in a black lightening if the price was right.

The V3/1000w/"Black Lightning" BMC geared hub motor is available at:

for $750 not including a wheel build. Very steep, but perhaps the nicest hub motor available right now in terms of power to weight. I'll be building mine up in a couple of weeks and I'll start a build thread when the time comes.

the black lightening is also known as the BMC V3...
Talk to Ilia (E:S id ebikes_sf) to buy a BMC V3 motor/ controller for far less than other BMC dealers.

I honestly can't see how this could dissipate that much heat. I melted my 408 on a hot day - at 2520w. it would be scorching hot to the touch. The only way this could dissipate that much heat would be through some form of cooling.

Also what is the gear change intervals on the internals?
are they metal gears?
lubrication required?
do you still have to remove all of the plugs on the hub to get to the gears?

Odd how the fire started at 3am on 4/20 (We all know what day that is don't we)
Father says he heard 6-8-10 explosions from the garage, my guess would be BATTERIES
