First Test 1000W Black Lightning Brushless, Geared hub motor

Wow, I went to follow up on this motor, and the website says:

http://www.hi-powercycles.com/

"AT 3AM on 4/20/09, THE HI-POWER CYCLES FACILITY COMPLETELY BURNED TO THE GROUND. NOTHING IS LEFT. ALL OF OUR CARS, ATV's, BIKES, MOTORS, BATTERIES, AND THE ENTIRE BUILDING ARE NOW JUST ASHES. NO ONE DIED THANKFULLY, BUT ALL OF OUR PERSONAL BELONGINGS ARE GONE. OBVIOUSLY OUR PHONES ARE DOWN, SO THE BEST WAY TO CONTACT US IS VIA EMAIL. WE ARE NOW ACCEPTING ORDERS, BUT PLEASE ALLOW UP TO 4 WEEKS FOR DELIVERY AND CUSTOMIZATION OF YOUR BIKE "

Anyone hear more about this? Is this a LiPo casualty? Glad everyone is OK, but I feel bad for them. I am disappointed, I was would have been interested in a black lightening if the price was right.

the black lightening is also known as the BMC V3...
Talk to Ilia (E:S id ebikes_sf) to buy a BMC V3 motor/ controller for far less than other BMC dealers.

I honestly can't see how this could dissipate that much heat. I melted my 408 on a hot day - at 2520w. it would be scorching hot to the touch. The only way this could dissipate that much heat would be through some form of cooling.

Also what is the gear change intervals on the internals?
are they metal gears?
lubrication required?
do you still have to remove all of the plugs on the hub to get to the gears?

Odd how the fire started at 3am on 4/20 (We all know what day that is don't we)
Father says he heard 6-8-10 explosions from the garage, my guess would be BATTERIES

Derek said "As a resident of the house, I called 911 around 3:30 and it took the firefighters approximately 8-9 minutes (although it seemed like an eternity) to get to the house. It then took about 10 or so minutes to get the trucks in and start pumping water onto the fire. All in all a very swift response. KCAL 9 I have really no idea what you are talking about being "suspicious". I came out in a t-shirt and shorts (which is what I sleep in) and no shoes. If you call that street clothes so be it! Our neighbors were kind enough to let the rest of my family borrow clothes for the time which we really appreciated. Having everyone in my family alive is much more important than any of the possessions that were lost in the fire which is something that we can celebrate!"

That is a real shame, although great that nobody was hurt. I know people who have been burned out and how hard the loss of all possesions hit them.

I went to school with a David Hunt back east, wonder if it is the same guy.
