Forum Software Upgrade Tonight Midnight

Way cool.

While you're at it, have you switched out the captcha system for one that is more effective? ( damn spammers.. )

I have, turned on the Google reCaptcha today for registration. We'll see how well it works. If it doesn't work well, there are more plugins the software comes with like custom QA, 3D text solve, etc.

Cool.
I think that one has been cracked but who knows, maybe the spammers won't have that enabled..
Going off what i've read, Custom Q & A is the way to go.

Thank you for your work, and for this forum, KnightMB.

Hey Everyone,
I know it's been a while, but tonight I'm going to upgrade the forum software. Backups will be made of everything first before I do this, so no worries if things go wrong for some reason. I'm also going to fix up the image problem here (and clean out the thousands of orphan images) to hopefully get this forum backup and running at top capacity. A lot of members have offered to help and I'll probably take them up on their offer.

I want the photos restored. I cant go back and look at old data and pics or refer anyone to my build or look at other peoples stuff because our ebike nudie pics have been lost.

Thanks!

I've had an ebike for a few years now and am updating/changing it just now. This is the best source I've found for help by a long way- whether it is searching through past posts or asking questions. Really helpful.

So this is really a big thanks for what is already here, and for everything you can re-link/repair, your work is greatly appreciated, as is the advice of the many forum posters.

That's a BIG thanks to everyone, and especially to knightmb.

The problem you will find with spammers is that the new age of spammers has has humans in cheap labored countries registering and plugging in the captcha and then setting the spamm bots lose.

The only real fix to this problem is using some kind of plug in that limits and monitors new users for spammer like activity. Also there are plug ins that block known spamming ips, and blocking suspect countries or putting them through a more rigorous registration process.

It is definitely automated to some degree though, that is why clever english language questions ( Q & A ) is a good idea.
I don't know of a captcha that *hasn't* been cracked.

Then yes, a plugin that checks for spammer like activity would be best, i would be surprised if nothing existed already, the patterns are pretty obvious.. do they sign up, and then immediately post a link? then make another post with a link.. and so on.. yeah, then they're a spammer.

Anyhow, it looks like the change to the google captcha has made things worse, now we are getting child porn spam.

Other phpBB forums i am on do not have this problem.

Going to try a more human interactive approach. It's a little irony that my hack version seemed to work better than the google version.

As a PHP coder myself who has to deal with lots of prebuilt libraries and various elements on a daily basis.. this comes as no surprise. Even the best code from the biggest outfits can be subpar..
I can't believe reCaptcha has been cracked for so long with no change.

Thanks for making this change. Fingers crossed that this stems the tide.
