I'm going to test this for the next wash load. It is just a burner from a range, that I got on trash day.
2400 watts! 240 v. Did test it in a big pot w/1 gal water and it went from 60F to 135F in 2 minutes
Even better I plan to preheat the bath tub, but on 120v 600 watts. (on a cold morning)
NOT going in the tub with it plugged in, however
visit brewing/distilling lists for details and time metrics for heating up large volumes of liquids, isolate elements in a primary heating vessel with a thermostatic cut off for a tad more safety.
Here is my quick estimate of how you can save $600.year by heating the bath water and washer water directly.
I'm using my costs, of .10/kwh, $1000 for a 40 gal WH installed with a 12 year life and slab floor with WH in garage.
it takes 15 min. to heat the bath at 2400w, x 182 showers/year= $11
1 hr. for the washer 2400w 3x a month= $9/year
so $20year plus maybe you buy an immersion heater for $20.
WH in garage left on 24/7, $45/mo $540yr plus $83 depreciation ($1000/12)= $623 subtract 20+3 dep on heater)= $600 saved.
does not include water savings as most people have to let the water run in the shower or it gets cold and takes too long to heat up. so about 450 gal/mo goes down the drain each month. How much do you pay for that?
this method I keep a 6 qt pot on the side of the tub, put 150F water in it, and use it to rinse (adding a little cold if it is still too hot) - so no running water and I can hear my stereo

Assuming this is a 40 gallon electric water heater. I don't do well with baths. Like to shower. What I would do. Experiment to see how long it takes 40 gallon electric water heater to heat up. Say it takes 2 hours to heat up and I like to shower at 6:00 AM. Put heater on a timer, On at 4:00 AM, Off at 6:00 AM. Warm water the rest of the day for dishes, laundry, etc. Think that running heater for 2 hours instead of 24 hours would cost less.
Keeping 40 gallons of water hot all the time is like leaving your car idling all the time so it is warm when you want to go for a ride.
I like instantaneous water heaters. I have installed a few gas ones. They needed a 3/4" gas line. I like them. Shower forever. Water never runs out.
In Florida you could heat water with the sun.
What is the difference between a Water Heater and a Hot Water Heater? ........................................................................
A Hot Water Heater is a Water Heater that has been stolen
Some thing weird I have done with older 40 gallon gas water heaters. Turn knob to pilot. Takes about a week to heat up. After that water is plenty hot for hand washing and using little bits of hot water.
I always used hot, for 34 years. I tried cold for a year and my t-shirts got dingy. My WH died in 2023. lasted 34 years, then flooded the closet.
I estimate it will only cost .25 to heat the washer half full to 130-160F. so pretty cheap, even the 40 gal WH was only about .38 to 120F or so. the tank weighed 100# so the tank was heated too, wasting energy.
I don't like baths either. I like to heat the tub water HOT. sit in a chair and use a jar to "shower"
I make the water hot enough to COOK myself. This steams up the room
then I put I gal in a pot for final rinse.
and of course I mix in some cold for the perfect temp
When she stops, assuming the other traffic was still going, punch it and move in front of her. Good idea if we were in some type of competition on a race track. Most likely that would cause her to also "punch it". Most likely that would cause a intentional crash. Bit different then a "accident"...

With one of these. Endless hot water anywhere you find a hose faucet.
Or it's insulation-stripped and sitting in the sun, like my experiment a decade or so ago (before I had trees that block too much of the sun to make it useful, and I can't put it on the roof).
I started this earlier this summer, and will have some of the earlier stuff about it in hte next post once I collect it from my housefire thread where I'd posted it originally,, but for now here's it's current status: I finally got the thermosiphon part setup, with the outside solar heated...
The solar water pre-heater has been consistently rated as one of the most cost-effective upgrades to a hot-water heating system. If building one of these only cuts your water heating bill in half, even though that may not sound like much, the cost of a DIY pre-heater is so low, the payback is...
I figure I spend under $2 a month heating water. It is very limited, how much effort i'm going to do to save less than $2.
BUT I do bring in a few gallons of rain water when we are going to have a very cold night. The water is in 1 gal jugs in the sun, so it gets warm during the day.. Then my plants won't get cold water the next morning (peppers hate cold)
