Giant NRS FS 55.5v E-Bikekit build. (IN FRAME BAG!)

*SIGH* your all right.... Whatever a manufacturer quotes for weight handling should be cut by 8th! 7-10lbs of Lipos dropping 1 foot turns into 20lbs on impact!

Since the NRS1 has a straight top tube, I went ahead and ordered a 99 short(for FS bikes) frame bag from Hi-Power Cycles.

That is starting to look more like it, but it still worries me a bit, unless the batteries are really secure and tight in that bag they will bounce around. I doubt they will fall out, but they will cop a bit of abuse as they hit your frame.

Make sure they are nice and snug, with some padding between the batteries and the hard points of the frame, and you should be right.

Ewwww, I did consider that and started looking for the roll of black stuff I have arround someplace but I'm Sorry, Duct Tape will be my Last resort.

Yeah I know. It was meant to be temporary for me too, but the cover hides it all. :lol: And I must say it has served me well for over 5000kms now, while I got distracted by other projects. But it provides zero protection of the battery if, sorry when I crash.

Ideally I would make a shelf/frame to support the cells, cushioned with some foam, then enclose the lot with a hard shell. Or just use the hard shell as the support, similar to what Mark_A_W & e-cannon have done.

The Rear Shock was just touching and didnt want to risk lipo puncture so I use one of the rear straps to pull the bag Upward.


Initial tests are good! The frame bag fits snug and DOES NOT MOVE.

Nice. Very Nice. Glad to hear it is all snug so things don't bounce around.

Just make sure that those balance connectors don't end up getting squished into the packs by being jammed between packs, or the pack and the frame. Would hate to see your LiPo get punctured.

After seeing this, I am tempted to try something similar for my LiPo battery mounting. What I came up with recently protects the cells well, but is not exactly subtle. Expecially since I didn't use a side by side layout.

I would have loved to be able to cram in 2 6S1P packs Side-by-Side for a 66V10AH configuration but alas the bag is too narrow.
The Hi-powerCycles short frame bag doesn't appear to handle anything much wider than a 6S1P & 3S1P side-by-side.

Ahhh. I thought you had the 6s1p packs side by side, but I now see that they are stacked on top of each other with your 3s1p packs on the side.

BTW. Nice photos. I love the super wide angle of the GoPro.

Hey, great build! I picked up an NRS3 today and want to do an ebike conversion. Your thread has been very helpful.
Would you recommend the e-bikekit system over a kit from ampedbikes? I really like the triangle bag you've got.. will probably do the same

The e-bikekit is still running strong. With the NRS I do notice increased frame flex on dirt hills when Im pedaling up w/assist. You may want to take a look at the geared hubs to save on weight.

As for which manufacturer to go with I can not speak for amp... e-bikekits was very complete and shipped quickly. I did replaced the controller 66.6v support.

FYI My Ride is still running a decade later with the eBikeKit.com setup!

Today I finally blew 2 of my 4 22v Turnigy Packs and decided to change up my power system.

Lightening it up to a 2 x 10S 4500 37v Zippy Packs in parallel.

With older age comes shorter trail rides so I really dont need the 10AH anymore.

Just wanted to check back in and give eBikeKit a head nod. Your hub has served me well...

I'm hoping that I can dig up the Firmware flashing cable this old 12 x 4110 MOSFET Extreme Modder Controller LYEN Edition. :|
If not, I just might be looking to switch out controllers to something purpose-built for 37V...
