Hey everyone,

I'm looking to get back into ebiking after a 3 year brake. I'm looking for a good starter bike that I may be able to amp up a bit. So I found a Giant Suede E for a good price locally but with no battery. It's even missing the case.

How hard would it be to rewire with a new battery either shoved into the central fork slot or even put on the rear rack?

Thanks in advance

It shouldn't be too hard if you know your way around a soldering iron and a tool kit.
The original battery should have been a 36v 9Ah NiMh. Those aren't used anymore, as LiFePO4 is a superior technology. Pingbattery.com would be a good place to get a reliable pack. A 10Ah pack would work with your little 350watt motor, though a higher amp hour pack will give you more range.

Good idea, but a Ping 10Ah will not fit in that slot.

I customized a Giant Suede E for my wife and modified the casing to accept lipos, so I'm very familiar with the frame. If you cut out the fascia, you'll have room for a bigger battery, but a Ping is still a stretch as there is only about 150mm of space from seat tube to wheel.

You can use any battery mounted wherever you want however you can. A rack battery would be very easy. I like these ones because they bolt to your existing rack:

You can gut your old battery, and use case as a toolbox or whatever.

Here's a bike that I did that to. The original case now houses a much bigger than original controller at the bottom and my waterproofs above it.

Although you CAN mount the battery anywhere, I would suggest keeping it between the wheels. The bike has a good natural handling balance due to the pack being directly under arse. The men's version of the Suede E has a decent triangle, so I would put it there if moving out of the premade area.

I just had my first ride with my 24S bike and fork mounted batteries. And while it was stable at speed, low-speed maneuvering suffered more than I can accept. All my batteries will be frame mounted from now on.
