Glowworm's ride out of Perth! August 3rd, 2013

We're all packed and ready to head to the airport tomorrow, it's not quite midnight yet so we're feeling pretty pleased not starting the trip with an all nighter 8)

Here's our boxed gear, 2 bikes in boxes and our clothes and camping gear on top. The all important batteries are already waiting in Perth.

We're now in Perth with Chris getting organised, building the 3rd bike and continuing work on ours. Beginning to charge up batteries too. Last minute of course!

I came home to a house full of bikes! Not to worry, beers were present :D

I will be working tomorrow as well (testing out my LiPo pack on the Hoverpod!) but a Friday night ride to Fremantle was on the cards.

Saturday should be a fun day, so get in touch boys and girls!

My bike had it's first beverage hauling duties and when I googled 'bottle shop perth' I did not find a shortage of options!

Hellova setup you guys are working on, what an epic trip.

I will come tomorrow, pity the trains aren't running from freo, was gonna save juice, so will maybe need to get early and look for charge point down there (48v 10 AH), I'm imagining 15 dudes huddled around powerpoints with strange looking bikes.

There are a few power points around :) I've gotten to be quite adept at spotting them.

Should be a great day for it too. I'm going to have a beer and relax. It's Friday, cause Fridays are where it's at.

I'm having a couple of quiet ones myself.

Kim make sure you're ready at 9 and make sure you bring your rope. My frock motor may cause your ride some serious overheating issues.
 
I can't make it to the send off, but wish you both all the blue skies and puncture proof tubes during the ride.

Looks like you'll have a ball.

To anyone bringing a charger, my place is 54km south of the big fugly Bell Tower in Warnbro. If you guys want to charge up along the way to either continue further south or to ride back to the city, feel free to charge up at my place, byo charger :)

The Mandurah train line is operating tomorrow (Saturday) from Mandurah to The Esplanade so those that wish to ride that far can train it back to the city.

We had a great send off and a good showing of local e riders. Quality of the bikes was very high!

We're in Mandurah now, ~70km down on the way to Bunbury. Stopping for lunch and electrons now, so far so good!
 
It was a beautiful day for it, good to see you made it up the hill to Fremantle, I'm sure the coast ride and ocean was worth it, show casing the best of Perth.

The beers at the pub were good too.

good luck, you got some serious km's to go yet.

After a couple hours of after dark riding, we've made it to Bunbury. 186km riding today and for myself 1512 watt-hours consumed out of 2016 wh available in my packs. About 24 km/h ave speed.

Thanks again everyone who came to start us off! I'll have to start a ride diary thread shortly.
 
Very enjoyable day even though I broke down. Some video of the ride from Perth to the raffles.

At 1.42 You wouldn't think its the middle of winter here.

Well I grabbed the footage from my cam and as suspected it ain't to flash, for those not on the ride, I had a condensation issue with my new cam, it developed a 2cm diameter circular patch of condensation right in front of the bloody lens, no idea why....first half of the ride to Raffles was a relatively slow affair few bursts of speed, the run back I canned it flat out on a 2km stretch, getting thumbs up by a Truckee running along the freeway, I was only just getting passed by cars, bike rode
beautifully incident free, I stopped atop the Narrows bridge and waited for the rest of the boys to come along, I checked motor temp, could hold my hand on it for 10 seconds the controller haha stone metal cold....

I know there were a lot of people using gopros so I hope we get some more footage upped...Matt? Mark? Paul?

Bummer about your camera, I usually bring a low quality spy type recorder but not this time but I did get a good shot of you glad to be riding your beast
