GT i-drive 2.0 Build

was gonna cut down the discharge cable, but NOT if i'm going w/ the lumbar pack!

also, needed the precharge resistors. broke my heart to keep sparking my shiny new 4mm bullets... :D

if it's not clear to others, the 8x plug attachs to the battery. the other end stays attached to the controller. @ hookup, i plug in pair (black lead AND mini red w/ precharge resistor [1k 5W resistor?]), wait a couple seconds, and then plug in the red. no spark.

didn't get ANY sparking w/ 846 controller but biggie w/ 116..

Finally you cleaned up your ebike and it looks awesome. Nice job! :D

what happened? it showing you violated copyright WMG something. here the screenshot.

your vids are awesome, nice that your running a 500w 9c legal ebike  ....

yeah, i threw a cure song on there, and youtube recognized the copyright violation. it seemed to play anyway. doesn't play for you?

Doesn't play for me either.
Thanks, Alan... But does your wife let you watch my videos?

I'm just kidding.. My wife watched some of my last one and was a bit wide-eyed. Asked if it was me... was definitely a bit surprised!

Anyway, I uploaded another version and replaced audio w/ something (electronic?) before dashing out the door.

Seems to work.

But for a better effect, IMO, play the audio on this:

Mute the audio and watch this:

If you care. If not, forget it! (I love that Cure song!)

Setting up the lumbar pack for tomorrow. Good time to show the parts. Made the 2-1 balance wires too long this time (stood on chair to photo this). More flexible to build packs, but more to stuff.

Speaking of stuffing, here I'm trying to fit 12 5s packs in. A bit snug, but that'd be 30s, 126V 10Ah..

Nice fit: 25s:

Locked and loaded.

If something were to catch on the wire and yank it, the main bullets to the controller would go, BUT, if something started ripping the discharge plug, and some of those wirenuts came undone inside... can you imagine a couple 10AWG shorts at the small of my back? Might need to keep that bit inside the pack!

Look awesome, Feel heavy when loaded in the bag? and hope the wiring will not into your spokes while moving.

That is commitment! Just be sure you get the motor memory built up of 'pulling the 'chute':D

Cold enough for ya' today? I passed 8 bikes on the way back on the trail. Lots of clothing. No derogatory comments :D

haha nice look. If you decide you need a bit more Ah on board I reckon something larger like this to carry your batteries around in would suit you.

Tuesday morning in DC and it's 26 degrees out this morning! Riding will be fun today!

I'll bet that most folks riding yesterday were too bundled up to say anything!

We'll see. I'm not convinced...

Not heavy, chroot. Walked around the house for a while. Sits real snug against the lumbar...

Strapping that much lipo to your body is commitment...with a "borrowed" lumbar pack or otherwise

Oh, I gotcha...

Well, trying new things can be hard. Perhaps I'm a creature of habit. This morning's commute was pretty dang frustrating though! Reasons:
- With rain pants on, the pack slides down.
- After bending down a couple times, it settles, and my shirt ends up untucked, and tender parts revealed.
- The untucking would be bareable (pardon the pun) if re-tucking were possible, but w/ heavy lumbar pack, it's not (or I just gave up after too many times.)
- Back pack sits on top of lumbar pack. No big deal, but adds to the weight on the hips.

(this is ALL before getting on the bike! it was a busy morning and had to get the kids bundled up and in the trailer - challenging w/o a lumbar pack of lipo)
- Gear up w/ balaclava, helmet, etc ready to ride, but could not turn backwards and see the cables to plug in, so:
- Must lift full-face helmet to see cables down and back.
- Can't plug in and step over. Must straddle, turn back and plug in.
- At first, couldn't pedal w/o worrying about ripping out cable. But fixed that (w/ bungee) after drop-off. (funny walking around school w/ 10AWG silicon wire dangling... just put them in my pocket!)
- Can I stand and ride? Appears so, but have to test several times. No biggie.
- At stops, when I put my feet down and stand, the pack bumps the seat, and gotta lift higher to remount.
- Riding performance is good, tho drafty. Bike is noticably lighter, inadvertently wheelies. Slightly wobblier at high speed, but definitely easier to maneuver.
- Dismount w/ cables is tricky too, must unplug first.

So, more convenient? Not yet! Might become more so, as habit develops. Am I going to stick with it? No! Perhaps if I didn't need to fuss w/ kids, maybe.

If I were going to do some serious off-road, or jumps, however, YES, I would use it! So nice to have a bike again!.. :D

And I didn't mention it last night, I was too ashamed, but I STARTED to plug the balance plug in while the discharge cables were still in....  ... I paused a bit and did so tentatively. Thank god, cause i heard a tiny zap of the end of a db25 contact melting and the smoky smell. the male ends look fine, and I'm confident it's okay, since I barely touched the ends.... <prays furiously>

The widescreen HD format is much nicer! Love that music too!

Yeah, if I had been trailing a car, those woulda been 'surprising'... Very close call w/ ped on the way home. Excellent footage too.

In other news, I meant to say, there's a HUGE difference in the battery charged up to 83.3V and only 80V. 83V is much faster and lasts longer. 80V is not gonna cut it. Especially now that I'm pulling closer to 45A... So I'm back to dragging around the iCharger/meanwell setup until i can find 23V charger to add to my 60V ping charger.

Check out ebay for a universal laptop charger - most of them have 22 and 24v settings and by opening it up and changing the necessary resistor inside you can set it to the exact voltage you want.

Good call, Hyena! You've had a lot of helpful tips lately. Thanks!

Something like this, perhaps? Most universals laptop ac adapter's seem to have 22 & 24V settings, but 23V would be perfect. Is there a particular resistor in there to fiddle with?

I'm kinda tempted to try charging at 4.2V. I mean, really, 4.3V is the no-no land, right? I seem to recall someone saying that charging to 4.2V shortens the life. I wonder if it's true. I was hunting ypedal's thread, cause i recall him charging to 4.2V. I wonder how that's going... Anyone else charge to 4.2V?
