GT i-drive 2.0 Build

no silly stunts, just a different part of dc on the way home. since some of you liked tours, right?

the steps were at meridian hill park.

did you see the (homeless?) dude getting a shave in the middle of the park? :D

Man, you've been places I've never seen in DC before! That cascading water display was amazing. How come no narration this time?

some places i'd rather not walk...

re narration: minor issue about time

Can you go faster on those steps
first i have to haul the loaded trailer up the hill pulling 50A to cook the motor and melt the halls glue, so they're nice and loose for the next bounce ride.

i do have some funny sounds back there. i think it's the spokes. time to send them back to jrh for a refund... lol. totally just kidding.

and my shoulders are feeling a bit better now. on my first run over those steps (the ones i jumped), i was going to fast. i'd intended only to ride down the steps, but i actually went over airborne at the SAME angle as the stairs. a nose dive, actually. the mazocchis must have bottomed out. it was all i could do to hold on. i must have instinctively gripped harder, but still had two fingers on the hydraulic front brakes so almost endoed from gripping to hard by accident. but i landed it and was able to ride but i felt like the wind had been knocked out of me. the adrenaline must have been pumping. i felt like i'd been in an accident. my wrists twinged. my shoulders hurt a bit.

that's when i set up the camera and filmed the rest.

Yes loved the last one too Greg! some really nice scenery there 8) looking forward to more videos, Hyena almost has all the funds up for a new camera now as well 8) great to know that the members on here value what the top ebike videographers are doing :D

Got to get the weight distribution right :!: I instinctively move back on the bike whenever I come to a speed bump or other anomaly

I need to spend money on body armor instead of power supplies :?

My CA recorded top speed of 47.6mph today; goosed it going down hill before I turned off Mass close to your house

The weight distribution would have been fine for going down stairs, but not nose diving over them. I noticed later that I got several nasty bruises on my thigh from trying to move below the seat.

A proper DH would have a much lower seat, but since I've got the beam rack (and the original seat tube quick release bolt was broken and replaced by something impossible to manage), the seat is too high. Even at stops, it's hard to slide off and stand.

I need to spend money on body armor instead of power supplies :?
As usual, send me a link! With summer coming, it's frightful to imagine bare skin sliding along pavement...

nice!

Thanks, knoxie! Can you post up a vid of you doing 8-9 steps, please? I'd love to see it. Do it now, before we're granddads...

Hyena almost has all the funds up for a new camera now as well
Thanks in large part to your generous kickoff and fantastic screen grab.

You've been a tremendous encouragement to me personally, to keep at it, so thank you!

This is what I wear - for $40 delivered from that seller they're insanely cheap. I paid double that a year ago and even that seemed like good value.

It's not totally obvious from the pictures but the bits that aren't hard plastic are thin meshy fabric that breaths very well. I usually wear a black tshirt under mine but which does make it a little warm on 40 (~100F) degree days but I'd rather not look like THIS (I google imaged searched 'homo mesh shirt' to get that pic. )

edit: here's a pic of similar armor that shows how thin the stuff is

Mine isn't quite that see through, I think it might be the camera flash making it look more that way - or it could be that type is thinner.

thanks, i wasn't gonna touch that other link from work...

so it all slips on like a shirt, and then you snap the 2 or 4 clips?

You put it on like a normal jacket then the front zips up and there's one velcro strap /belt around the belly. If you can wait until tomorrow you can see me putting it on in a video. It's ok though, it's like seeing batman put his suit on, not gay like watching some dude getting dressed

(the homo image is work safe btw)

just wondering if it'd be stealthier, less super-heroish to wear the jacket OVER a Tshirt but UNDER a dress shirt...
You don't want to look like a super hero ?! Man were you that kit at school who wanted to be an accountant when he grew up ?
You couldn't wear it under a dress shirt, atleast not in your normal size. It adds a fair bit of bulk to your chest and especially shoulders. You could wear it under a loose jacket or jumper (sweater) and that's pretty stealthy. You'll just look like you spend 6 hrs a day in the gym

were the sizes right? you get an L?
I got a medium I think - I wear a size 38 business shirt and it fits OK. I'd rather it was a little longer in the belly and find it 'rides up' sometimes but that's just the short style of them I guess and they're meant to be short so not uncomfortable and stiff when on a moto.

Check your email

still here. just busy, as my compilation of gropro timelapses will attest... most of this is on the homefront with the kiddies, so be warned...

in other news... taxes done. refund coming! :D

also, got a flat on the trailer and had to ride the kids home on it, but the plastic rim wasn't damaged. i actually patched the tire, pumped it up and left it near the door. my wife was in the kitchen on the computer when it EXPLODED! she couldn't figure out what it was... i shouldn't laugh... but obviously the tube was toast after having been riden on empty...

going in early these days, same old commute. plenty of rain, but enjoy it all. still can't wait to get on that bike!

i've got some ideas for more shots but i just have to find the time.

Wow now we're really starting to sound alike :)

Cool time lapses. What do you do with yourself while doing the outdoor ones ? I got pretty bored waiting around for 10 minutes at a time for them to snap away but maybe I'm not easily amused

Was the tire aired up cold, then brought inside where it's warm? Cuz that can blow them up even if they're brand new (I've had at least one, probably two valve stems blow out because of that; aired them up in airconditioned places then went out riding in the summer heat...KABLAM. :(

Watching the tourists.

Interesting. No, it wasn't really cold. And I had it indoors plenty long enough while patching for it to get warm. I pumped it up to 30 psi, which may have been too much for the 16" tire. But I was happy to have it go then rather than on the road! Weird that it took like an hour before it went POP.

nothing special here. too lazy to switch the gopro to upside down mode, then was stuck w/ upside down footage at 60fps. I flipped it, set it to 50% speed, exported a 20 min movie. Imported that, then cut to pieces for a small handful of clips... cops slowed me down, as usual.

now that i'm jump crazy, i've been scouting out decent drops. i've hit the washington monument twice at lunchtime but it was too busy, people everywhere, so i went this morning. i'll get the vid up later tonight, but in the meantime, i almost prefer the screenshots! the wall is about 3'.

Nice. I thought that was a cop car at first that you flew by at 1 minute. I though "damn he's trying to beat me to capturing a police chase on video"

Hoping to join me in the broken spoke club huh ? You should buy a cheap second hand BMX for bashing around and doing stunts - you're going to wreck it again and leave yourself stranded for getting yourself to work and the kids to school. (says me all sensible like, while I'm out riding like a looney and smashing go pros  )

Those screen shots do look cool though.

Yeah, I see lot wobbles even your picture of the jump's front wheel looks like it had little curve? Maybe it's my eye tricked me?

8) 8) cool video..liking the underbelly shot, sweet jumps too!! looks really nice, damn those gopros are so cool! keep your spoke key handy

You ever take it off any sweet jumps?

ROTFL... that is funny. what was the guy doing getting that air? i forget.

It may be time to start the "Knoxie GoPro Thread"!

I've got an idea: We can raise money by auctioning off the number of steps you'll jump! The first 8 or 9 will be on me, ok?

Or if you'd like to paypal me, I'll ship you a 'gift' naked for US: $259 + ~$15 shipping... :p
