Hall sensor error but tested ok with a multimeter

I am having issues with my geared hub motor and I am using an ASI Bac855 controller. Performed a hall sensor test with a multimeter and I noticed it would switch from 4.89 to .9 for all 3 sensors and when rotating the wheel fast, it shows about 2.5. However in the bacdoor app while doing motor discovery I get a hall sensor error. Can the halls be bad even if the multimeter shows that it is switching?

A failed test can have several possible reasons that don't specifically mean a failed hall sensor.

Alot can depend on how you tested and where your test point leads were...

Look at it this way, the controller is looking at its hall sensor signal wire voltages that it provides. If it does not see them change in the correct order or at the correct time or at all, it will set an error.

With the motor connected to the controller and powered up. I would encourage you to back-probe the motor's hall sensor connector on the controller side directly. Seeing exactly what input the controller is receiving.

If you see all three signals changing from high to low, then the issue most likely is with the controller's programming.
At which point I'd contact slaphappygamer.

You can also get electrical noise on the hall signal lines, often induced into the wires from the high current phase wires. If it happens more at startup under load, or high load conditions wehre phase currents are higher, then this is more likely to be the issue.

If it happens under any conditions, not just those, it could still be noise, but is more likely to be a timing issue (which usualy gets worse with higher speed).

There are some other posts scattered around the forum that discuss assorted ways to correct hall issues, though I don't know that the people with the problems tested many of them.
