You'll also find that when using sla batteries during cooler temperatures they seem to loose there umph. When I ride in the fall and winter the sla's act sluggish but once spring and summer arrive they're back to their usual selves again.
Seems that you could use this fact as a racing advantage. Before the race you could have your charger and some "battery warmers" (like racing slick warmers) on the batteries getting them up to a temperature well above air temperature. Then you run the race and at the end of the day you put them back into cold storage until you need them again. That way you get the peak power when you need it and prevent the high temperature wear that would otherwise make your battery age.
I rode twice today and the batteries are back to full strength. I'll have to remember that in the summer the batteries self discharge is much higher... :wink:
