Hill Climb Event in San Francisco May 14th...

The above bike in chroots video....That was ryan (es username) with is crystalite 5304 (or 5305?). Nice guy. HE was having mechanical questions with his bike through out the ride/race...his guess is some problem in the bms on his new battery pack from ilia. IT was too bad Ilia was not there...he promised me several times a month ago he would be there.

Sad that bike was not able to compete..it would have been a smoker.

Yep, aaronski got fire on his ebike? Someone told me. He basically gave up and left earlier. I don't know what happen. Do tell. 8)

aaronski shouldn't let wiring exposed that might lead short and He insist it's fine. Edward Lyen and I said OK.

PS. I tried edit 3gp format video and my Windows Vista's Windows Movie Maker crashed on me. Any recommend the Video edit that can chop the useless video off and put together to make a video?

Aaronski flamed out as our first rider on the starting line...we did not have Lyon down there yet as our starting line official (and ranger lookout).

At that point Aaron was down there by himself...so i only got his 1st hand account of it afterwards from Aaron...

He went like 10 feet and then flamed....

Maybe aarron can tell the complete story here...

Lots and lots of drama at this event which is how I like it.... :D

I am proud the event was a "scorcher" with lipos fires and 3 crashes from my count...one caught on video.

Dont worry guys..next time we will have all the bugs worked out and it will be safer...erm... a little safer....we will have fire extinguisher on hand so we dont burn up the headlands!

Oh oh quick point...the reason why we did time trials instead of flat out racing is to keep people from going crazy when riding together in a pack which what happened in the finale road ride..which was suppose to be just a "fun ride" to the top. One bike at a time is safest in these kind of events...so we did one rider at a time with timers. 3 Lookouts with walkie talkies on the course to make sure course is clear before every ride. This format worked out smoothly...and we were able to capture real times that future riders can try to beat.

Hehe I made it ride all way up top the hill without walking up the hill. Not bad 42v LiPo on 9C motor.

That trail is very steep and We should have find a trail that does straight up the hill easier for me or some of us video recording the action in events. I mean not bad first timer event and I hope next event will be much better than 1st what we learned. 8)

I think we should keep that gravelly steep trail for the unlimiteds...and just do some preliminary road races for the stock and low wattage bikes...well exactly which is what we did.

I have done races with high power machines on the road (exactly there in the headlands) and the problem is the speeds that are obtained are deadly dangerous. The first marin headlands ride i helped organize 10 years ago we were hittiing over 50mph on corners and an accident at those speeds...well your lucky if you just break a wrist. I raced an etec in some of those races...and i count it as top 10 most dangerous things i have done....when you race in a group (no timer) you push yourself to do stupid stuff to pass or keep up with the front runners.

In reality that steep course we ran...one rider at a time was pretty safe for the unlimiteds.

The maximum speed they hit was 32mph..and that is in the sole semi smooth straight area of the track where we had the radar gun....someone should do the math but my guess is that physics averages like 22mph overall on his run....safe and sane i feel our race was.

Believe it or not the steep ruggedness keeps the unlimiteds safe. And the commuter class climbs this hill at about 10mph speeds.

The idea course were the road courses we ran earlier that were semi steep and fun for the U2000w vehicles....i dont even count the unlimiteds when racing in courses like that because its obvious they are like motorcycles with pedals...we can kill each other racing vehicles like that on smooth semi steep terrain.

Remember the bmxed crash happened on a pretty good uphill slant (probably steeper than the pikes climb for example) and they were hitting insane speeds.

That is the point you are risking getting someone killed....so races like that shouldnt be sanctioned except on a closed course race track....imo....

I am thinking we should re-do this event...just as we did it but with more emphasis and time spent on the road rides for the commuter vehicles......now that we got timing system...radar guns etc..lets pull all that out for the commuters on road courses as well. We just meet at the end at slackers to watch the "unlimiteds" run up the steep grade....commuters can always walk their bikes up the hill..its a breeze.

and I am thinking soon....July.

BUt we need more riders to show up if we are going to organize it. We have a chance to build a real good community with a great group of people....I am so excited i want to do it again...and have an entire box of trophies left i didnt use.

A few videos from the Green Machines Race:
First Prelim up the dirt trail race:

Arg. I can't figure out how to embed the youtube videos

:D they should look like this:

Thanks for shooting/sharing!

@extremegreenmachine -

I understand your point, To me, I wouldn't want risk this one because for example what happen to Dave (bmx guy), If he is dead by crash and Who is liable for this accident? I am trying prevent happen and nasty lawsuit.

We need sort agreement and abid the rule of the safety something that would give us protection from the lawsuit.

50mph on road without proper protection gear and DOT helmet. Dave is very fortune didn't get killed. :|

Luke is only one have proper protection gear and DOT helmet. Please next time improve our event by build a proper rule and safety. No matter what, as long as We don't kill someone by cause lust overpowered or outlaw speed. It doesn't mean I am being a ASS. No, I just am concern for everyone's safety and blast fun enjoy race without getting someone hurt like Dave got hurt badly. :)

I think Dave has good lawsuit potential for bmc frame manufacturer...that frame snapped like a twig :D

I guess its just a question....which Snapped like a twig first..bmx frame or bmx dudes wrist?? :D :D :D

And also let me make clear...i never planned this ride/race where the injury occurred...nor would I....this happened after our event after trophy ceremony as a fun ride....just all together about to take off it kind of evolved into a race....i got a video of the start of that ride/race by the way...i will post.

But seriously...once someone builds up a seriously dangerous machine like these machines are....how could that builder/rider ever blame someone else for injury...i cant think of any scenario...i guess maybe if someone got run over by a drunk driver...then you would have lawsuit...since he was more negligent than you were.

I always forget the law term and i wish i could remember it...but it is a word that means to a point everyone is responsible for there own negligence.

But law talk is no fun....lets keep talking about the race..drinking beer at the top....hot women riders....spectacular crashes....physics monster madness machine....I love ebikes more than ever....i cant even tell you how cool and invigorating this event felt...it was like a legal motorcycle rally on the most beautiful spot on the planet. Thank you thank you physics for bringing this event to life with your monster machine. It was the icing on the cake so they say.

I would suggest that we encourage:

bicycle safety gear for bicycle speeds (say up to 30) (bike helmet, some type of gloves, jacket, pants, shoes or better)

motorcycle safety gear for higher speeds over 30 (m/c helmet, m/c gloves, m/c jacket, ?? pants, boots)

but at the same time acknowledge that it is up to the rider to make the final choice as they are ultimately responsible for their safety?

Good idea Alan,

I did have a dot approved helmet at the course in case someone didnt have one (the carbon fiber helmet i was wearing)....and everyone i know of who ran that monster wore a dot approved helmet....not only that leathers as well.

But also remember...on the unlimited course...32mph was absolute top speed ever obtained. And we had soft pillow like bushes on both sides of that thin track....and no cars.

IF we would have had a good crash on the unlimited hill climb it would have most likely been a "fun crash"....course was planned that way to keep rider speed down. Physics one upping everything by coming to the event with a 60,000 watt 50hp machine was a fun suprise...but remember physics only hit 30mph top speed on his run to the top. And was in full leathers and protection gear...gear that he shared with anyone who rode that machine.

Also we were being very careful with 3 race officials on line with walkie talkies making damn sure the course was clear before giving the go signal to the rider.

Believe it or not we planned carefully for safety for this event....

But there is only so much you can do when many of the machines that were brought were obviously unsafe.

What do you guys think we plan a new event that is just more of a fun endurance ride....with no "off the hook" unlimiteds allowed? I am game for that as well...SHould that be the next event cuz i am ready to plan another one.

When I biffed against the hillside I was probably going between 25-30 mph, and Luke had estimated it at 30.

That helmet saved me from a scuffed up face for sure and I was lucky to plow alongside one of California's typical loosely packed dirt hillsides. DOT helmet would be best.

Anyway it was supposed to be a fun ride back and I shouldn't have gone into competition with Luke. Uhhh big mistake. choot is right on.. I got lucky and it could have been worse.

IMO no competitions on roads, casual, planned, or otherwise, period. Thats what closed course tracks are for.

a bit sore today...

thanks to Erik (extreemgreenmachine) for the awesome event!!
and a bunch of great guys for letting me test out their machines for this ebike noob.

no thanks to Luke for his DMX (death MX)
JK.., that throttle is just a bit sensitive...
I twist as slowly as I though possible, and I saw sky, and was on my ass before I knew it.

It was amazing watching Luke and his friend and BMXed going up that steep ass dirt climb.

anyways, a fun crazy day..
really opened up my eyes to high power ebikes...
gives me some better idea for putting together my first one...

Skaterdude,

Dude your video has that motorcycle video so beat. The only electric video crash i think might have you is the killacycle crash: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9o15EALghp0

Your epic! Hey we looked for you at bar yesterday and didnt see you...wife said you were going to join us there...have to have drinks to sooth ego after big crash caught on camera

I know your into skateboarding and i know you must know the old skateboard motto that if you crash...your suppose to get up and do the same trick again....and keep doing it until you nail it. :D

You also said you are almost ready to buy a high power ebike...

Well...that monster mx bike of lukes may be for sale you should make that your giant jump into the ebike world and mount that baby once again and this time tame that wild bronco....

Imagine you can join us on our ebike sunday rides and once again be star of the show! :D No one will talk ebike trash when they know you own that thing...instant credibility.

But one favor....Can i be there with my gopro camera when you take that baby on her maiden ride?

...and i remember another skater motto from my old school skater daze..."bones and bruises heal and chicks dig scars!"

IT would just be in the spirt of a mad skater to ride that monster mx around SF...

8) 8)

Hey great!! some great videos and reports from such an epic event!! you guys looked like you all had a blast, Lukes bike is amazing and old school in many ways apart from the batteries, freaking thing looked scary to ride (throttle response needs setting up in the alltrax).

Sorry that BMX stacked, shit the frame snapped so easily  hope you get better soon buddy I have busted my wrsits a few times doing stupid stuff on BMX bikes but that was 30 years ago  shit showing my age here...and I still ride a BMX as well

Extreme you should be proud of yourself man, you have made an epic game changing little race here my friend, very well done to your for doing it and to the others for showing up as well, I also agree use dot approved safety gear for the high speed stuff, even downhill full face mtb helmets as a minimum std for everyone would be a good idea, full face plants really hurt even at low speed.

If anyone has any more video or pictures of the event I would love to see them, did BMX get any footage off his gopro before he crashed? oh and hey BMX thats hardcore driving home with a busted arm, I did that too 20 years ago when I bust my arm at an ice rink!

Thanks again to all involved that has made my night reading this thread, so much better than watching the TV.

Knoxie

chroot - red khs :?: :?: :?: :?:

My ebike is tidalforce

Here my ebike picture.

Yeah, I am drawing ebike using stealth bomber frame mount bigger electric brushless motor 50hp integrated 9 speed gearbox. This is just rough ideas and yet don't have all machine equipment. I assume it's going cost lot build a electric dirt bike.

It should able beat Luke's record easily.

My girlfriend's young daughter is pretty tough girl and thinking build ebmx for her and she is only 7 years old. She rode my ebike really fast and didn't fall down. Of course, She wore protection gear for her safety while ride my ebike and Surprise, She is pretty tough girl. Maybe she can get involve uphill race against you folks!

It'd be funny :)

What motor and what controler are you planing to use?

No worries, sk8

@arlo1 - I don't know yet, I would love mount netgain motor but too big for ebike. I will need discuss which best choice motor and controller.
