Hey guys,,qwik question if anyone can help me out. Is it possible to put a bigger motor on a Himiway Cobra,,,but still keep the 48v 20ah battery,,?
Or is it gonna be an inferno waiting to start,,? 😔🙂🙂

This depends on the quality of cells in the battery, and their rated max continuous discharge rate. I.e. if a 48V 20Ah battery was rated 1C max discharge rate, you wouldn't want to draw more than 20A continuous current. Drawing too much will shorten pack lifespan. Also voltage could sag greatly under load and lead to other problems such as system shutdown.

As the battery is the most expensive and hard to replace part, I baby mine. My 52V battery is only ever charged to 90% capacity and I never drain it below 40%. I draw well under its max rating to prolong its life.

To answer your question, we'd need to know what type of cells are in your battery, how many amps your system draws, and how many amps you would like to draw. Note that increasing voltage will give you more top speed. Putting in a bigger motor or overamping an existing motor will give you more torque and acceleration but not more speed.

Also note the controller determines the amps your motor receives from the battery, so you would need to reprogram your controller or get new controller if upgrading motor.

How old is it ? How fast do you want to go ? You want to climb a hill ? Those bicycle pretty good for a commercial bike.

It's about 1 1/2 years old. Slight hills,,nothing too crazy,,if I can boost it up to 35 mph,,it would be great. I'm guessing CYC motors aren't compatible,,,are they,,?

I bought a Cyc pro1 gen2 BT. They sent me the wrong electrical cables twice the Bluetooth controller they never were able to program it. After playing with me for a year and a half they decided to sell me a working controller not X6 at cost $90 that's on top of the $1,100 kit I bought a year and a half prior that never worked. It works now but there's a short in the pas or the throttle because it can jitter and take off ?
What I recommend a Cyc anything no no way.

You need a stronger battery and a stronger controller.
A battery that can do 50 amps hopefully Bluetooth and a controller that can do 35 amps. And I believe you have a geared motor that will get warm if you abuse it. Long appeals mud sand are going max speed for long distance will melt geared motors.
