How do the experts handle front wheel lock up?

Each of us is riding very different weather and terrain. Add very different bikes and riding background, it is normal that many different opinions are coming out of this.

Man i hope you get well fast.

From my experience in a situation like that there are a few things you can do but you need to practice on them and watch the terrain all the times.

The first thing to do when you taking a turn and your front wheel blocks or getting the feeling that this will happen you will have to let the break leaver right away push with your opposite foot on the direction you are turning (left turn right foot) and place your weight behind the seatspot to regain traction in the front wheel. You will be amazed with the results of this technique.

Also to give you a little heads up in situations that you are loosing traction always remember that a rolling tier has way better traction that one that is blocked or a wheel that slows down really quick.
The pressing down thing with your feet to the opposite direction had to do with equalizing the bicycles center of gravity on a turn and its the trick all the professional motocross , enduro dudes are doing.

Again i hope that you get well soon and please don't forget to use protective gear.I have escaped injuries a lot of times by using em regularly. Most helpful things are the gloves and helmet.Extra light weight protections that will save you the basic rib , knee and arm injuries are a nice t-shirt with pads , knee and elbow protections.

First of all you ride much faster than I do so things go bad very fast. Many things I list are bicycle not motorcycle related. I have rode year round for several years and 1 inch of tire movement and your setting your self up for a crash. Today the amount of tires we have for bicycles are huge. This time of the year here in Wisconsin most of the snow is gone and the road edge has sand. The hookworms don't do well in sand so I don't use them and have a hard pack tire on the front. This has standard tread in the middle and knobs on the side and run very high pressures. If you ride a highway and have to go from pavement to gravel this type of tire works well. The last thing is pedal your bike it tells you how much traction you are getting on that surface.
