How does the e-brake work? (Chineese controller)

Hi

I have a chineese controller, brushless 36v.
It have LO brake and HI brake, they both do the same.

When I connect brake it only turn off forward power.
It does nothing to stop the wheel.

As I have no other brake, I had hoped that "brake" would also stop the wheel agains moving forward.

Can anyone explain how "brake" is supposed to work? Thank you :)

No other brake? wow.... you should fix this first.

The brake switch is meant to temporarily stop powering the motor.

When you apply the brakes you don't need or want the motor to still keep spinning.

You are probably thinking of regenerative braking. Chances are your controller does not have it. Even if it did, it wont work exactly like you think it will and you will still need some regular disc or rim brakes.

Ok, I understand :) so regen is what I want, but first of all normal brakes will do a better job.

Let me first explain that this is no bike, but a kids car ø.
I have 10"hub motor to power the car.

And it's not so easy to make any brakes on the car othervise.

Like I asked some time ago, my plan is to make 3 relays, one for each phase on the motor. The relay will short circuit the motor wires all togheter and make the car slow down alot (not a total stop, but it will help) .

Do that so it shorts the controller as well, and it will blow.

Inside your controller, it may have the regen function possible, but no wires connected to it. There are some threads buried in the forum that show how to add those wires to some controllers.

Or just buy a controller with regen on it. Once you have regen, you can make the brakes work with any pushbutton that connects the two wires, like a horn button or doorbell. The brake handles on e bikes do the opposite, cut the connection signaling the controller to stop power.

You don't have to cut power to use regen, just be smart enough to stop stomping throttle.

Thank you for the input :)

Trouble is to find a controller that have both regen and reverse. But I will search for it.

Btw, I have added 6 relay on the 2 wheels.
One reley for each phase, relay disconnect controller and shorten the 3 phases on the wheels.

And guess what, it works perfect :) I can also make it a 2 step brake, first step only shorten 2 phases, and the next step all 3 phases (complete stop) .

I can feel no heat after som testing, not from motor, relays or the tiny wires from the motor.

The brake is perfect for a "emergency stop" on the kids car.
