Hi All,

I recently purchased a BBS02 Bafang Mid Drive. However, I'm confused by it's power output.

On the motor it states 750w. However my understanding is that Amps x Volts = Watts.

The unit is 48v and can produce 25amps. 48 x 25 = 1200Watts.

So can my Bafang Mid Drive can actually produce 1200Watts?..... not 750w...

I would really appreciate some clarity around this issue. What is the actual power output? And if it's more than 750w, why advertise is as 750w?

cheers

You're right of course, at 48v 25a it would be producing 1200w, and hot off the charger you might be able to do even more than that.

I would consider 750w as more of a continuous operation rating, although it can peak at 1200w it's probably going to wear out pretty quick if you run it like that all the time.

I've put about 8000km on mine so far, blew a controller at 5000km, but the gears were all in good nic. Regreased it and all going well since then. I wouldn't be surprised to get 15 - 20,000kms out of the unit. I run it at 750w most of the time, pedalling along at mode 6 (reprogrammed with kepler style settings).

Just remember never to use petroleum grease on the nylon gear: it will slowly soften and eventually strip.
