First post - hi guys
- but I've been reading for a few weeks. I haven't come across an answer for this so here goes.
Building my first e-bike, primarily for commuting to work. This will be all year, all weather except the most extreme conditions - as I live in Norway it can get a little uncomfortable (where I live usual temps are -5C to -15C in winter although it can reach -30C on bad days). Not as wet as some places, although we do get the odd week where it rains cats and dogs. I live several km up a steep hill so going to work is fun, coming home is a grind on my current unassisted hardtail. I guess the total journey is not more than 6 or 7km one way.
So, to fulfill this role, I bought a cheap fat bike http://www.nakamura.no/portfolio/big-bob-4-0/, ordered a fat bike modified Bafang BBS02 from Doug at http://california-ebike.com/ and a 48v 10Ah Battery pack with Samsung 25R cells from Custom Ebikes http://www.custom-ebikes.com/48v-samsung-25r-cell-high-power-10ah-battery-pack/. I'm also considering getting custom full fenders from Big O http://stores.bigomfg.com/fender-kits/. The bike is here but all other parts are in various places and en route.
Now, the question (and yes, I suppose I should have asked this before I spent all the money) is, how weather proof is this likely to be? I'll take the battery into the office during the winter to keep it warm which will help of course, but I guess I'm concerned with general crud from the road eating away at the motor, control gear and battery and that it'll not be able to take the wet.
Anyone with experience taking similar kit out consistently in bad weather?
