Hub motor won't stop even after throttle turned off, reads error 8

Hi all,

I have a 36v 350w system with a BPM rear brushless motor. I bought a new throttle and controller for it on Amazon a couple of weeks ago, it's been working fine but today when I rode home from work I noticed that the display was reading error 8 and the bike was acting weird. The motor accelerates fine, but the throttle has a locking feature for long distances and it wouldn't disengage from this mode. While turning the system off at the LCD display would disengage it from the high-speeds, the motor would actually continue spinning at a low speed (3-5 km/hr) until I turned the system back on. I realized that regardless of whether the locked speed mode was engaged, once I had touched the throttle, the motor wouldn't stop turning completely until I rebooted the system... Any ideas on what could be causing this? Any info is greatly appreciated!

Some have a "walk mode", often engaged by holding a button or combination of buttons. Perhaps that button is stuck? Jammed in, got wet, etc.

Interesting. What is error code 8?

Welcome to the forum, BTW :es:

Thanks for the replies! I don't think I have a walking mode? The controller and throttle I got didn't come with a manual so it is difficult to tell... Error 8 from what I can see from other user manuals online is a hall sensor error. I've tried checking the motor connecting wires which was suggested, they seem fine. but also it doesn't seem to be the same effect that other people are noting with their error 8s, most say that the motor won't work at all when they hit the throttle. I may see if I can get my hands on another throttle or controller and rule out if those parts are the problem before I go taking the motor apart... I'll try to post a video of the issue after the weekend too!
