I don’t own a Zuma however after experimenting with several fenders the ones that worked best for my ride are the Townie Balloon. They are offered in Black reinforced plastic and brushed Aluminum metal, and are well-suited for tires 26 x 2.5 up front & rear.

I have a set divided between ebike front and covering the 24 x 2.5 on the trailer, although the rear fender of the full-suspension employs a custom kludge that I’d like to replace next spring with a modified Townie. :)

Thanks for the info on those. I really like the brushed aluminum look they have.

My wife loves her e-bike. I bought her a Giant Via single speed for Christmas a couple of years ago. She then went and bought a front wheel 250 W motor and battery kit and I installed it.

She has since put a wicker basket on the back. I think it looks pretty nice, but the yellow does show filth a lot more than a darker colour.

Welcome to ES!

Kingfish,
Exactly how wide are those fenders? I'm looking for fenders for my 27" diameter, 3" wide tires. These look almost good enough in both dimensions, but would like to know the width...

Matt, they are exactly & precisely 78mm/3-1/16 inch wide. There's enough room for a 27-inch diameter, but suggest that it will only cover the middle of the tire. AFAIK, these are the widest whole fender for bicycle tires. That said, might be worth looking at what Fatbikes.com has for fenders; they have some big wide monsters called "shovels" to cover the Surly Endomorph. :)

That’s a very nice set-up there. I really like it. Something like that is what I was hoping I’d end up with back when I was seriously considering going the conversion route.

I suppose that would be one of the drawbacks of a natural wicker basket: small particles of dirt can get lodged in the tiny crevasses in the material, and be nearly impossible to get out without causing some damage to the basket. Also, anything wet, such as mud, splashing onto it can cause stains. Although wicker baskets intended for bikes would probably treated by the manufacturer to repel road grime to some extent, a good preventative idea might be to spray on a couple of applications of acrylic clearcoat before installing one. Trouble is, it would also diminish somewhat the natural look which is a big part of what I find so appealing about them.

Anyway, it turns out I’m pretty satisfied with my runner-up choice, the scooter trunk. Here’s a pic of it from the eBay page:
$(KGrHqRHJCQFBUPb!09LBQcYeYDi3Q~~60_57.JPG

It’s fairly small at 10” long, 9” wide and 8.5” high - just big enough to hold a few emergency tools and bike locks while also serving as a place in which to lock up my helmet if I want to park and step into a store for a while. And at only about one lb., it’s also very lightweight. With only a light going-over with some Windex on a paper towel, I was able to get off the little white marks that are visible in the photo, plus a few others that were on it. Without much effort, I have it looking brand spankin' new now. All in all, I think it ought to work out quite well.

The widest bike fenders I know of that are even remotely close to reasonably priced are from www.bigomfg.com I bought mine for a lot less than sticker price without hardware and have yet to install them, but the quality is as good in person as they look in the pictures.

Thanks for that last link. I've added a new Fenders section to the Rims and Tires Reference. Let me know if you find more :)

Much appreciated, KF

Update on my fender situation:
A little while ago, I was about to place an order through Amazon for the SKS P65 fender set which I'd finally settled on. On a sudden whim, though, I thought it might be a good idea to take one last look around eBay to see if anything turned up that I'd like even more than the SKSs. Well, am I glad I did! It turned out that only about two hours previously, someone put the beauties below up as a buy-it-now sale:
[edit: the photo is huge, and won't embed completely, so I'll give the link to it instead] http://i.ebayimg.com/t/Red-26-Beach...A=/$(KGrHqN,!osFCsB,2BGlBQ-,P1Rsmg~~60_57.JPG
Right width, right color, and in brand new condition. Needless to say, I couldn't resist. Now I just have to pick up a pair of p-clamps for the front fork at the hardware store, and I should be all ready for when they arrive. :D

I'm sure I'll be snapping some pix in just a few weeks when everything is all put together, and the local climate takes a turn towards e-biking weather. :D

Speaking of fenders! I saw a thread on "hand protectors" on E-S and I can't find it now. It was for a tadpole trike and I need 2 front fenders for mine. I ordered some SKS ones that attach to the handlebars of my trike and they should arrive tomorrow. I'm a former New Yorker but luckily I don't worry about color match so black will work, I hope. If anyone remembers the link it would be helpful. Otherwise I will just have to improvise. We do ride in the rain sometimes (Mobile Alabama is the 2nd rainiest city in the country, just across the Bay) and I am tired of using my rain jacket arms for fenders! Pictures when I get this together. Nice fenders Nancy!
