Inflatable helmet / Airbag helmet

I like the concept, but I can't see such a thin layer of air bag offering much more than abrasion protection. Add in the 400 euro price tag and the seemingly high likelihood of accidental discharge, and I'd have to say no.

Let's see the girls who invented it don full armor except the head and see some real crashes to demonstrate absolute faith in their product. The 3 tests at low speed with a crash test dummy doesn't sell me on its effectiveness at all, other than quick deployment.

I just can't understand being worried about your head, but being more worried about style and looks than the hat doing you any good.

Join one camp or the other, either ride no helmet in such a way that you don't expect to crash, or put one on and don't fuss about how it looks.

Helmet, no helmet, or funny helmet, NEVER ride in such a way that you get hit by a car, or let a car jump in your path. Your armor is no match for big steel objects. Yeah, they can surprise you, but you can stop allowing yourself to be in a place vulnerable to being surprised that way.

The nice thing about the invisible helmet is that if actually effective, some of the strikes go away against helmets that make them a statistical push in terms of overall safety...actually a statistical detriment to the general public since it decreases ridership. Without your brain feeling cozy and protected in that extra layer of hard shell, then the effects of risk compensation must be greatly reduced. Plus drivers will ride with more care and give you more space, since you appear helmetless, and there's no helmet induced noise to interfere with hearing your surroundings, or limited field of vision helmets cause.

All of these things are sure to tip the overall safety factor in favor of the Invisible Helmet, but only if it's as effective in real crashes. Some of the effects are subconscious, so the concept that someone can ride with the same care with or without a helmet is invalid. It's no different than it's impossible to stroll the same next a thousand foot cliff as you can along a flat normal sidewalk.

Any Physiatrists or Biomedical Engineers out there? Does the Invisible Helmet provide more neck protection? Bike helmets protect the head but what about the neck? http://www.hovding.com/en/how_it_works/

That might not be very good to protect you, but can help making sure the one that hits you will have his share of damage. :D

The bubble suit can transform you into a soccer ball in the traffic, then you can bounce and roll for a while, or until you score a goal.

or roll into oncoming traffic then hit by a truck which sends you flying into the path of another truck then down an embankment and land in the breakers on a beach then a dog starts tearing at you thinking you are a play ball

i've hear about this crap recently, too much hype over a sensationalist fashion item that's being advertise as a helmet. Off course the hip people with money will still buy it, but it's total crap imo. look at this item:

http://www.smh.com.au/executive-style/fitness/the-bike-helmet-thats-invisible-20131115-2xkvd.html

That's not a bike "helmet"...That's a wearable mini airbag. They're only advertising it a a helmet for several reasons. 1) they can use the word "invisible helmet" and that stirs more interest. 2) law requires you to wear a helmet, if they called it for what it really is, which is a portable airbag, then it's useless cause people will still need to wear a helmet. This is just an overprice Sham.

looks safe to me, i had a car accident once when someone pulled out of a side road and i was doing 50mph. the airbag saved me and the passenger,
there is more power than u think in an airbag,
also a bag of air, as long as there is enough air in it, will cushion the blow more than a bit of plastic with foam inside.

I'm struggling to find what part you don't like about it.

The purpose of wearing a helmet isn't to be wearing a helmet right? It's to protect your head/face from serious injury in a wreck. If this does that...

Why stop at helmets? Invisible bear suit...(body airbag suit)

I hate helmets. Miserable things. In thousands of miles of riding, I've only been happy with them a couple of times: when I flat out crashed, and head whacked hard.

Only time / place I ride without helmet now is in the Netherlands, and for first couple days when I do it, it feels like walking around naked in public. But get used to it, and its great. Helmets suck except when they are saving your life.

So, if somebody can come up with a "head airbag" system that really does the job for riding in most places... I'm in. Would be great to ditch the helmet, without risking the noggin.
