Internet Radio: Where Does it Come From and how do I. . . ?

Yes, what r3volved said is what I do first when I have problems. The programs start when you open them anyway usually no reason for them to run at start up, if you are not using them, with the exception of your antivirus and malware stuff that is. Stopping everything then running your antivirus from safe mode is one of the best ways to get at some of the more evil stuff. Also you can type in chkdsk/f from the command prompt press enter then y and enter again. After a restart your computer will look for several types of errors and fix them. You can try a system restore as well but it has seldom helped me still with a store bought computer default settings may have things automatically backed up for you. Good luck

Avast has a boot-time scan which runs before any windows hooks can get executed. This works well for actual operating system attacks. It's got a good monitoring that's never been too much of a memory hog in my experience.

After owning a computer repair shop for a few years, I gave up on it from this same stuff over and over. The best advice I can give for the future...

1. The 'backup' disk that you get with a new computer has to be run AS SOON AS YOU BOOT IT UP FOR THE FIRST TIME...fresh install. It's not an install disk itself or a reformatting disk like it used to be. This disk makes you a fresh install disk from your clean new build and is not meant as a standalone repair disk.

2. Slow your clicks and pay attention...especially when you're installing things. There's often sneaky checkboxes on the install wizard pages that you end up with 100 toolbars being installed along with the software you actually want. Don't just hit 'next', 'next', 'next'...<<my dad is brutal with this

3. Downloads and content belonging to reputable and trustworthy sites are often safe. Ads and banners on that same site are not necessarily safe.

4. If you're brave enough to ditch windows or financially equipped/have a spare machine...try Ubuntu or Mac

Just so anyone reading this later can learn this, I concluded I did not have a virus, I just had a programming bug. I'm thinking the audio mostly came from CNN. The problem was updated away.

Oh that's good news bud. I thought you were still struggling when I saw the thread reappear. Sorted :)
