Is the KT controller compatible with the original Duotts C29 motor?

Hi there,

Does anyone know if the KT controller is compatible with the original Duotts C29 motor? I would like to try to change the controller; if the motor fits the KT controller, I could buy the other accessories (PAS, throttle, lights) that fit the KT controller.

Depends what you mean by compatible. The KT will work with almost any brushless hub motor. If you’re asking whether it would be a plug n play installation (same connectors/harness), then maybe not, since the motor connector may need to be swapped. In the DIY world, we’d consider the former to be “compatible”, but as a newbie, possibly you mean plug n play.

Thank you for the reply. Yeah, I just started DIYing my ebike. If it's a plug-and-play installation, it will be much easier for me to get it done. But as you said, I could cut off the wires and reconnect them if the wiring system is different.

There are several options that don’t require soldering. KT controllers come with either a 9 pin HIGO or the older bullet connectors for phases and the white 6 pin automotive style connector for the halls.

A pic of the motor connector might help. Is this the motor?

Yes, that's the motor. It comes with the 9-pin Julet cable (photo 1 & 2). The KT36/48 25A controller I'm going to buy has the same 9-pin female Julet cable (photo 3).

There are controller kits available that have the controller, display, PAS sensor and throttle that would ensure everything is compatible. It’s often the cheapest way to go, even if you don’t use all of the parts. Just find one that has the combination of mostly the parts you want. Only KT displays will be compatible, but if you want a different throttle or PAS, it should work, but could require swapping connectors if they weren’t from the kit. I like the one piece PAS sensor; it’s a lot less hassle to deal with. I like a half twist throttle, since it’s a good compromise between a full twist motorcycle style throttle, and having a stationary grip in case I need to do mountain bike stuff (bunny hop, jumps, etc.) without accidentally twisting the throttle. Tossing those parts from the example below and buying the parts you want would probably still be cheaper than getting everything separately.
