Laprise Board track racer

Hey,
First timer with E-power here.
I am Making a 'vintage race motorcycle' the most authentic i can make it look as possible.
Ive gone with electric cause its basically the only 'legal' way to motorize a bike around here.
I am on a tight budget ,but have too much time so i make what ever i can my self and budget goes for electrical
parts(witch i know very little about) and essential components for the right look or those i can't make or recycle.

the Project started in April by making the 1911 Joe Merkel suspension fork, then the frame ,and now the motor mount.
now that i have a rolling chassis ,things should be more interesting and i feel the need to share the build with you guys witch compose this great forum with tones of creative and useful info and inspiration that already helped me for that project.

just ordered a 48v 20ah battery kit from maker battery

My set up is basically just relocating the hub motor in the center of the frame to have a better weight distribution, the right look, and have the battery/motor/controller/probably charger all in one single package hidden in the form of a vintage v-twin gas engine.
It also allow me to tune the gear ratio if needed since i plan to top it at 32kmh(legal top speed) to make sure i dont get into trouble with the law ( iknow my self too well )
-single speed with disk brake on the motor
-single speed with coaster bake with the pedals
i plan to hide every bit of tech to keep the authentic look

Central located disk brake is interesting.
Maybe it is common design but new to me.
Seems like it might put lot of stress on "brake driveline" in hard stop?
All the braking force is transmitted to rear wheel by chain?
Anyway thanks for something interesting to think about

thank you , never seen it before ether , sure its not the safest brake setup ever , but combined with the coaster brake and driving wisely it should work fine , my thought was using the coaster brake for stoping and disk for aditional help or on downhills whne the coaster would heat up and degrade..
time will tell haha

aluminum foil over the foam

fiberglass over that with wood reinforcements

a little bondo fix , then primed and no-stick spray

battery in progress (not finished) connections were doubled with copper wires = (6p 13s) = (48v 20ah)

all wrapped and working properly

overall look .. the tanks came out of the mold slightly out of shape , tried to straight it by holding it in a jig and add fiber bondo , but now its heavy thicker than i wanted and still slightly off, the no-stick spray did not work so i had to cut the mold open so cant use it anymore... i am now considering scrapping all of it and try to make one in sheet metal... oh well , its only a storage compartment , so its not needed to run the bike

first test , first time i feel electric power on a bike
POWWWER!!! lots of torque , says 34kmh on the display witch is what a Mac8T with 28t /32t was estimated , but its not accuratly set up yet , just a system check

Made my battery case and mounting

Started with a aluminum plate i shaped , bent , drilled and tap to hold threaded stainless rods at 40degre to support the battery

then fitted the smallest diameter tube i could fit over it = 3,5''ID could only find that in card board craft packing tube

then found a drain pipe pvc fitting that fittted perfect over it and had a nice shape , then a other random piece on top that i turned on my wood lathe and press fit and glued

then decided to melt some grooves in the pvc with a rod to make it look more like a vintage piston head

then made a center plate to cover the cables

then used a old pvc fitting i had laying around for years to make a exhaust port / cable exit

this peice of card board was added to cover the slots i made to clear the corner of the BMS thats sticks out more than the reste , later sanded the edges smooth , and every cardboard was brushed with wood glue inside and out to stiffen it , make it a little bit more water proof ,and seal it for paint

then made top cover plates in sheet metal and welded a support witch witch tripples as added safety lock for the battery and a handle to carry the battery
i threaded holes in the center of the base plate and center plate to use lamp fittings to hold the plate and passthrough the mounting bolts

i like this little knob i kept in my recycle hardware collection haha , looks like its making me a wink :wink: but its a (lock/unlock knob) witch is exactly how i use it , it will only be accessible from inside the key-locked faux-tank

pretty satisfied , but i really wished i had access to a lathe and milling to make the cylinders in 1piece of aluminum with fins .. maybe in the future if iam lucky

just need to mount the controller and make a seat and ill be able to test ride the thing

thanks! lots of fun yes, cause its not work to me , iam always having a kick at tinkering on stuff and make the most of what i have at hand
why make it simple haha :lol: , really want that nostalgic look and its a good mental exercise to think of how to make something look like something else but still function well, as (?) said ''necessity is the mother of all inventions''

Seat makeover

shaped the plastic pan a little bit better with heat

dollar store yoga mat for padding

found a great place for all sorts of genuine leather , this one pre-stained and oil finished , perfect for that authentic look

the rails were sticking out too much for my taste

so i cut them off the spring support , cleaned everything , and welded it back more compact , then sealed with a clear coat

I pre-drilled Many holes with my dremel and laced it

just need to finish the edges and a sealent .
turned out great imo for a fist time working with real leather

i tested the bike the other day and was surprized i miss calculated the gear ration , it goes at least 40kmh , man that feeling was amazing :lol:

but now back to reality , tried to charge it and had some problems , asked on the facebook page and got help, but still not sure if its bms/charger/or battery related , i ordered a new charger cause i think its the cause , ill soon find out ..

in the mean time a friend gave me a nice vintage crank 46tooth 152mm arms and iam waiting on the ordered bottombracket , a offset 127.5mm and ill still have to use 1 or 2 spacers to clear the motor cover.

since i openned the battery case , i found out the 8rods were comming loose, so i got new ones (bigger) 1/4-20 and did not spare on the lock tight.

while i wait for parts to arrive i may be redoing the tank , still questioning if its worth retrying with fiberglass or go with steel

yes , took about 1h juste for that , but did everything in 2days in about 6h while watching tv , so not that bad , drilling holes was def the painful part

Take 2 at making a fiberglass storage tank.
insulation foam

spray adhesive and wrapped in cellophane,
reinforcement wood at the bottom and thicker ridges to stiff things up,

2-3 layers on glass
fiber bondo
bondo
primer
much sanding in between each

now that it looks so perfect , ill be cutting it in half , empty the foam , mount it and hinge one side

tank split , foam removed , success this time !

my innitial idea was to just trow the cycle analist in the box to not see it/affect the look ,but after thought i want ease acces to it and see how much juice i have left , so i thought of flush mounting it in the tank

no risk , no reward , dremmel on the CA

oh yeah!

after epoxy resin everything , a small amount of bondo , sanding and primer
Boom! flush mounted CA 8)

will make a sealed cover for the CA and all the wires

also added the 3speed switch( removed from the handle bar clamp)
a electronic key lock and quick on-off switch ease of reach

still waiting on my key lock latch i ordered to keep the hinged right half of the tank closed
(will take pics of how i mounted the tank halfs)
I also drilled the bars to pass the throttle cable trough it

also waiting on : drop stand -wide offset BB -bigger 40t sprocket - vintage pedals
