Has anyone used (4) lawn mower batteries on a 48v 1000w hub motor? I have a bicycle trailer and I'm wondering if I could put (4) of these on it and ride all day. Thoughts?

No reason it wouldn't work, it would just be heavy. If you have the batteries go for it. But I wouldn't go out and buy some. If you are talking about lawnmower starter batteries instead of electric lawnmower batteries, it would not work well at all. You need batteries for high discharge rates, like wheelchair batteries, not starting type.

Yeah, I was thinking of the starting kind.......OK, back to the drawing board. My 51.2v LiFePo4 pack has died on me and I have a delivery gig this weekend. Will SLA batteries work on a 48v 1000w hub motor? If so, where can you find them locally?

how did the pack die? new or old? it may be easier to fix than wasting more money on lead. you have no address in your signature so nobody can offer an opinion about how to find lead locally.

I've updated my location, I'm in Oxford, MS which is an hour from Memphis and Tupelo. I checked the voltages on the pack and 15 cell groups are ~3.2v and one is 1.2v. I've been using an SLA charger that only outputs 56v, so I've ordered a "correct" charger from BatterySpace that will charge it to 58.4v. Hopefully that will bring the other cell group up to the right volts.

I'm still interested in putting (4) 12v batteries on my trailer. I'm just wondering where I can find 15-20ah SLAs?

Thanks,
Leo

You might think about getting a single cell charger like this one from Voltphreaks https://p10.secure.hostingprod.com/@www.voltphreaks.com/ssl/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=3&products_id=28. A bulk charger might overcharge some cells before the low ones come up - jd

Ah, right, that makes sense. I have a Turnigy Accucel-6 that can change 1-6 cell LiFe....I'll do that first.
