Leafmotor axle size

Does anyone know if the Leafmotor axle is 12mm or 14mm?

Also will I have to file my standard 135mm quick release dropouts for them to fit?
(apparently you have to file even for 12mm axles??)

I really want the cassette version but on the leaf bike website it says it's actually 137mm, will I have to bend my dropouts and is it ok to have a 1mm deflection each direction for aluminium?

It's a good idea for the centerline of the new axle to match that of the old, especially if you have disc brakes. So in a 10mm dropout, 1mm for a 12mm axle, or 2mm for 14mm, etc.

On the axle diameter(s), check the leaf thread. More complicated for the cassette version. Read through the discussion since I think there was some new info..

The motor is 137mm in width. What is the actual O.L.D. width from your experience with space for a disk brake? Around 140mm? I haven't used the casette version of the motor but i can tell you that 2mm of spread is ok on pretty much any bike Is there a way to resize the motor to fit better...

You will want the axle to set at the same depth as the original (or near enough to avoid disc brake misalingment as E-HP mentions above). You can carefully file the dropout deep "corners" to relieve the radius so it better matches that of the flat-to-round transitions of the wider axle. NOTE: do not create a squared off corner to avoid creating a stress riser. Use a round file.

Don't file dropouts-- they're mostly kind of weak as it is. Do use torque arms that are substantial enough and well attached enough that they would hold the wheel on by themselves.

Better to modify a disc caliper bracket if disc location is a problem, than to butcher your frame.
