LMX P2 : Freeride trials motorcycle frame development

I contacted Marko bettini, to see if they can provide a full 24" wheel with a 20mm dual disc hub. Would be ideal because then I could use regen and engine braking!
Then I would have to machine a custom axle but nothing impossible!

Okay so I got a reply from Zelenavozilla, they are waiting for a new batch of dual discs hubs, but they have the rims on the shelf. They said 2 months for the hubs...

you could try oset for the dual disk hubs ( they may have some in stock, unsure about the price , but bet they will be expensive!).

Not too bad but it is 32h unfortunately...

i count 36

ok, i see the hub they sell extra is for "special custom" 32h :( just ask them, since they use 36 in their stock wheels there you must get a replacement parts for that.

It is listed as 32h on the website, plus the 139x 3/8" axle is not what I am looking for. I think i'll go for a shimano rear DH hub in 142 x 12 like what Crossbreak linked, then get one of the dual discs 20mm fornt hub when the'll be available...

just ordered my controller! : http://kellycontroller.com/kbs72121l50a24-72v-mini-brushless-dc-controller-p-1175.html
And it seems like I found where my tubing was delivered!

Yeah I don't know I did not study their linup enougth ... will send them a mail to see if they can upgrade.
Anyway 50A continous is good enougth for me ;)

Actually they seem to automatically send me the X version as seen on my order receipt! so all is good ;)
Products
------------------------------------------------------
1 x Thumb Throttle = $19.00
1 x KBS72121X,55A,24-72V, Mini Brushless DC Controller = $179.00

Sub-Total: $198.00
Zone Rates (Best Way: Mostly Fedex Economy or DHL Air (2.4lbs)): $29.00
Total: $227.00

I think you ll love it a mix of square and sin signal, the throttle low and high value, the low high v cuttings....the temp monitoring.. The economy, boost switch.... If you need any help to configure don't hesitate... I configuration mine with a standard rs32 to usb link like 5$ on ebat, plus a 1 m cable, bring the PC in the van....did you buy the kty 80/130 temp sensor with them, orterwise I got link on ebay or you can get it on CONRAD or on in any electronic shop

here are the 24"x3 vuelta with the 65mm rim vs 34mm crystalyte rim and a 2.5" DH , I think a 50/55mm rim is the best combo, I did not tried the 65mm rim, but the tyre is half lower...

Thanks for the help and the input Dan, it's very nice to you!
I got a used 26" "double wide" 46mm wheel for the front end of my bike, 30€ :D

Here are the first parts we made with my buddy Lucas on his DIY plasma CNC :

For the next frames I will try to get a lazer or water jet cut, I plan to do a 5 frames batch before summer so the prices for 5 pieces shouldn't be too bad!
Anyway very happy to have this finnaly started!

about our Kelly: It seems that it does only around 3/5 as battery current of the rated 55A "motor current". That would be 33A battery current for our chosen one. For 20s Li-ion we should see 2442W peak. Not 4kW  this motor will be bored a bit: http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=57596&p=874677#p858870

Edit: We know now that it will do more.. 5kW+

130 peak should give you 0.7 x130 =90a peak, and able to give 40A continuous.... My 240 rated peak key gave me 189A ( battery) in thé sand, and easy 110 A boost on flat the question is : are you able to handle a 72V 90a peak ? Don't forget the kelly is a square/truesin mix,... I think the guy you mention was never able to setup it....but I do not know kbs only key ones....
http://kellycontroller.com/faqs.php
http://kellycontroller.com/KBShelp.php

Set motor at 100% if you don t care heating it
And battery % according to the peak value and the I precomize 60% OF YOUR battery C discharge not to destroy it...for exemple a 8ah 30c = 240 A take 144A as max discharge not to damage...so set at 100% battery (or maybe 70% is max like on keb model) If you got a 20c 8ah, 160 À discharge, take 96A AS REAL, THEN downgrade the battery current to 70 % to protect from too much discharge, or if your sag is too much
Take nite that the software can give you full motor current at low speed because of current multiplication....so it could be your battery pack discharge rate that limit, if you haveore Amp, you reduce the sag and so you get a higher Discharge C
Kelly recommend to get 2 to 3 time the power motor rated.....72V*55A =4kW rated should be ok for a 1500/2000w rated motor....
Correct me if I m wrong...ask gindc why is truesin is more powerfull and faster with less amp

thanks for that info. the discussion continues here: http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=57596&p=874714#p874714 Some more questions:

1) is there a thread about this that i did not find yet?

2) Where does the 0.7 figure come from? Can't find it on the Kelly page.. link?

3) I thought all setting are for max power when they are stock. After I read your post, this seems not to be the case? My Battery can do 18.5kW peak (74V, 10ah, 25C) bzhwindtalker and I expect 4kW peak from this controller. Guess bzhwindtalker's battery has equal specs (much too much, can both kill motor and controller with ease)

4) i dont get it, how does this graph work? What is P1, P2 and Imax? Which can we program?

THX!

I received the vuelta 24*3 tires, and ordered the shimano 142*12 hub + hd 203mm center lock disc
I'll be getting a wide trials rim locally I think, and lace it myself.
This is not really good news about the kelly controllers, but if it ends up not working for me I'm sure I will be able to sell it at a good price. If it really does 130A peak motor side, It should work well for me, big torque at startup, and phase multiplication after that...

Nice show us more :D

Can you tell us the wheelbase you are planing for the LMX P2? and how tall you are?
Thanks! The wheelbase will be 1280-1315mm, and I am 1m 73 :)

For referance, most DH bikes are about 1200mm

you should see 90A peak @ battery I think, with motor current set @100% and battery current set @the max which should be software blocked @70% (on the KEB) and probably on the KBS too,
and you got the 3 modes throttle...

I don't think so ...not that much on the kelly...

crossbreak said:

because on the KEB the battery max software cursor is blocked to 70%, which mean current motor x0.7, maybe on the KBS you can get 100%

in fact I got like 15% more with the CA and a 0.5mOhm shunt than the setup on the Kelly...for me they give the power they rated...
@low speed it allow you to give really more current @the motor than @the battery by current multiplication...
I don't think you really get 18.5 Kw but 0.5 or 0.6 of it...when rated 25C I think that you'd better limit to 15C ...or you'll get too much sag and will give to your battery a short life...maybe it can give you 20Cpeak...maybe it's different with panasonic cells or kokan...so you can get 25Cx10Ahx 0.6 = 150A peak maybe 200A, in this case you don't have to limit motor current and battery current in the Kelly software but if you got the KEB6KW as mine with which I already have seen 190A battery...would be better to limit battery current not kill it and because with the HS4065, more than 90A get it hot pretty fast and past this limit you beguin to fear your hand on the throttle in technical passages on so came the economy switch to get Half motor current...

crossbreak said:
4) i dont get it, how does this graph work? What is P1, P2 and Imax? Which can we program?
Imax = peak current controller rated
P1 is percentage setup in the sofware I think
P2 is percentage setup of battery current regarding the current motor setup (you must setup you battery current limit according to your motor current limit)
ex: 130A rated peak motor current you want to limit @ 100A : you select 77%
then according to it you can select 100% (maybe on the KBS) or the max on the KEB which is 70%, so you should see 100A x 0.7 = 70A max battery current

feel free to contact Fany for info is pretty reliable
