Looking for options on replacing a burnt motor - find a core or get a whole new kit

Got an interesting project going and looking at my options. Picked up a bike super cheap AKEZ Grizzlies 48v 750 watt 29" tire with literally 8 miles on it and the motor is cooked. I'm not skilled enough to do a DIY rewind and not sure if there is a potential motor core swap I could pull off on this. I bring this up because it has aluminum mag-style wheels instead of spokes, and I'd like to see if I could keep the front and back wheels matching. (see pics)

Other option is a simple hub-motor/esc kit and just swap out all wiring and display. I did this on my daughter's Ouxi V8 Fat Bike bike recently and very happy with the results. Sold the old parts and now I'm working on this one.

To sum it up:
  • Is there an easy motor core swap for this style of motor to keep the stock look? Are there folks that do rewinds for reasonable cost?
  • Or do a rear hub motor kit?

I've never seen a wheel like that for sale, maybe some hunting on aliexpress may uncover a similar one.

It's relatively easy to swap the stator but going to be pretty hard to find one.

What markings are on the motor casing itself? Or on the wheel, anywhere? They are probably laser engraved, rather than painted on, or stickers.

There are some tiny motors (mabye the Cute or Q100 or Q80 or whatever it was called) that might fit, but if the lateral spaicng of everything and the sungear are not identical then the planets won't fit or line up.

If hte planets and clutch on boht are identical then it should all fit, if they're different then it probably won't work even if hte motor is the same.

If the rest wont' fit but the stators are the same, It might be possible to transplant just the stator / lamination/winding from one to another, but that presumes they can be taken apart that far nondestructively and that their axle mountings are the same or can be made to work the same.

Thanks for the replies! Yes, I was thinking about all of these issues last night. Axel set up, spacing inside the motor and rim, and the outer thread design for the gears/cassette to use the drive train. Hmmmm, I have some more homework certainly unless someone who's familiar with this rim chimes in. A rear motor/esc kit swap is the easiest and fairly cost effective but these mag wheels complicate the matter a bit!:unsure::unsure:

I was looking at one of the AKEZ websites last night for an available core drop in replacement, and they are all over the place with available info. Some sources say this is a 750 watt motor, but that esc at 7 amps nominal and 13 amps peak screams 500 watts max, so I can't even find the right drop in core online just yet. I will do some searching on aliexpress now, good idea. 🙏🙌

The watts are not important because theyr'e probably a lie anyway. Or a peak rating, given the tiny size. Not enough thermal mass to do high continuous power, and a geared hub with insufficient ways to get that heat out.

The important thing is the dimensions and alignment of the gears on the planetary / clutch with the shell's ring gear.

BTW, the mag wheels may look the way you want, but they don't have any of the advantages of spoked wheels, including hte ability to replace the rim when it gets damaged from whatever road conditions. As long as they do what you want, doens't matter--but there are definite disadvantages to them.

Your motor core looks very similar to the remains of an old MXUS that I have in bits in the shed. This motor was rated at 250w and fitted with a similar 7A rated/14A controller at 36v. The one I have had a 21 tooth sun gear, 36t planetary gear and the outer gear had I think 93 teeth, giving a quoted ratio of 4.4 to 1.
The rotor has 20 magnets and the stator has 18 coils. The rotor outside measures 106 X 36 mm approx. The stator iron laminated section measures 92 X 28 mm approx. Unfortunately I dont have the axle to measure. The clutch has one keyway. This motor came in three versions, Xf07 front, xf08 rear freewheel and xf08c cassette version. I think there are clones of this motor produced by other suppliers.

Interesting, I took a look at those and it's tough for my newbie eyes to tell what would work in my hub. Hoping I can sort something out on my end. Or I am going with spokes in the back 🤷‍♂️
