Hello everyone,

I am about to build me a new bike and i am in the market for parts.
I want to cut the middle man. Most of the motors and e-bike parts are made in china and then sold to reseller that sells them to us.

I want to buy straight from the source, from the manufactures. In the past I have purchased parts from Ebay and was very happy with them, but I want to check more options.

I am looking to buy from a Chinese manufacturer that would sell straight to me and a sea shipping would be a great bonus.

Any recommendations?

Unless you're planning on getting a full shipping container's worth, good luck. If you catch them at a quieter time, they might do a pallet for you, but otherwise, I doubt you'd get any interest.

Alternatively, go to the Shenzen showroom district. That place is incredible. Was there about 4 weeks ago. All the manufacturers hire out a stall there, and you can get single items direct from the manufacturer dirt cheap. (Although all I saw was batteries. Didn't see any motors there). Still, you could get 48v, 10ah aluminium packs for about $170.

How many kits do you want?
If you only are building one bike, live in the States(you might fill out your profile)and they have want you want, your best bet is BMS Battery.
They seem to have recently improved their service and members here, myself included, have received their orders in about a week.
Yes, they are resellers, but you are not going to save much(if anything)by buying factory direct. The fact that they full fill so many orders seems to have helped improve their communication skills.
Also, with BMS Battery, you can build your kit from components, allowing you to order a bare motor and build the wheel locally. This saves on shipping.
The important thing is that you know what you want and how to order exactly those items. Are you there?
If you don't want to go this route, go to Alibaba and start contacting the factories.

Welcome to ES****Do this before your first post or now (it's retroactive)*****
Please go to the User Control Panel, select Profile, and then enter your city, state/province, and country into the Location field (country minimum) and save it. Once done, your location will appear in every post so you won't have people asking where you are ever again. This will help people help you. Example: Wylie, TX, USA. or just USA, but country as a minimum, and country is the most important. There are many cities with the same name all over the world. Without knowing what country you are in it's hard to make any recommendations. Thank you.

As others mentioned, it'll cost more to buy direct from China, unless you are in China.

If you tell us what bits you want, we can probably point you at a suitable supplier, but for a single kit, shipping will be by air.

numerous ebay sellers ship direct from china.
just got 2 bike computers/speedometers at $2.98 each including shipping!
about 20 orders with 100% delivered, but 1 was 2 months to get. usually 1-3 weeks.
feedback keeps them on their toes!
so the US importer is cut out, along with a US middleman.
great for small items.
BUT for a whole ebike, i got it from walmart for $399! delivered free by fedex in a 100# box!

I really appreciate all the input from all of you guys.

Sunder,
I done a purchase in the past from chonismotors, they are based in china and sell directly in personal use quantities I am just want to hear more recommendations. Shenzen showroom district, is the dream :)

motomech,
I don't leave in the States, I do know exactly what I want and will look into Alibaba, thanks for the recommendation.

wesnewell,
You got me there, I just filed my profile.
I am not sure about your statement, a 36V 350W motor+8Ah battery+EMS shipping from chonismotors would cost about 517$, that is very cheap by my country standards. I am just looking for a sea shipping option and more manufactures.

d8veh,
I need motor, battery and a controller. I don;t mined ordering from different supplier.

tomjasz,
Thank you very much for the link.

Matt Gruber,
I agree with you, ebay is great option, the problem is that air shipping is expansive for the heavy kit parts.

BMSBattery.com is my favourite. They have the best controllers (S06S, S12S, S12SH) and the best selection of batteries. One-stop shop.

http://www.emissions-free.com/store/ is probably one of the most popular and respected china based ebike stores.
He sells geared and DD motors and builds his own battery packs out of quality well known (Jap/Korean) cells.
The own also pops up on this forum now and then.

You can just buy a ebike kit minus battery from EM3 and buy a cheaper battery pack from BMSbattery, I can understand the point of view of a newb wanting a cheaper pack where the battery cells are mystery based (ignorance is bliss). I got a BMSbattery pack a few years ago and its still going fine.
Forget about alibaba, but one aliexpress site I have checked out now and then is "One bike one world" as they sell some of the more modern sinewave controller based stuff.

d8veh,
Thanks for the link, prices look good, gonna check the shipping prices.

TheBeastie,
Not a newb , this my is my third bike I am bullring. I am looking to cut prices were I can without cutting on the quality. When I was making my first bike I was looking for "one stop shop" I purchased my entire kit and battery from chonismotor(and was happy with the quality).

You are right about alibaba, a lot of bad stores regarding this website

Can also consider greenbikekit.
I was just browsing their site when I came across this updated PAS sensor that has a feature that makes it not be a complete pain in the ass. That is it splits in half so you can just put it on without having to remove your crank.
http://www.greenbikekit.com/dual-hall-pedelec-sensor-12-magnets.html

Still don't know if it solves the other problem which I have had on all my bikes (Trek,Giant,Diamondback) and that the crank has these chunky things sticking out that almost look like they were deliberately put there so you cant install a PAS sensor.

I hope I'm posting to the most appropriate topic here, but I'm also looking to source a particular battery from China. I've been talking with a company called Timelyrain recently and was thinking of ordering two dolphin-style batteries from them. Before I spend upwards of $900 on a couple of these, I was trying to find someone who's bought from them and would like to get as many opinions as possible on the quality of the battery. I am trying to find a reliable supplier and potentially may order a dozen or more of these batteries. Any information you all could pass along would be greatly appreciated.
Also, I know very little about making payments directly to a Chinese supplier and would like to hear from people who have, and how to make it a safe transaction. They (Timelyrain) are requesting that payment be made through T/T - a bank-to-bank, immediate transfer as I understand it. Is it better to have the payment held in escrow (and I'm not exactly sure how that's done)? I understand many suppliers dislike this method as they are then at risk if the buyer doesn't release the funds. Any advice here would also be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance for the help!

Never send a direct payment to China unless you know its someone you can trust. I've bought loads of stuff direct from China and always pay with Paypal. No Paypal = no sale. You get limited protection from Paypal which means that if you don't get your stuff, you get your money back.
