Malus cyclone
just sharing some pics, overall happy so far, realize upgrades will be needed.
I also realize that the stock brakes are not ideal, the wheels and tires are not ideal, the battery is not ideal, the brake handles are not ideal, the lighting is not ideal, the twist throttle and twist shifter are not ideal, the controller housing is not ideal for longer harder use in warmer weather, and the motor mounting is not ideal either I realize, nor is the donor bike itself.

The seat however,IS ideal for me LOL, you should see the stock seat, its like a butt wedge!!!

The investment level is also ideal for me, for my first ebike, which is also my first new bike in over 30 years. If I was an avid cyclist I would probably want to change the plastic peddles, but since I am using them only for a place to put my feet, they are fine for now.

I did get the PAS sensor but could not figure out how to mount it with the stock cyclone bracket, each component was getting in the way of the other due to the design, maybe Ill look at it again, maybe not..if you have solution let me know...

Basically a sorta road bike for scootin around town, should have gotten a cruiser type since that is what I am making this one anyways.. :). Getting a few more goodies on the cheap for it, rack, bags etc..kickstand..rear fender...disc brake locks. better bike lock...3 way switch.and so on...overall pretty cool functional novelty item..the one picture of the corner of my bag, shows where I stashed the garage door remote, so I can roll right in with a tap on the bag...LOL

Tried one more link in main drive chain, seemed like idler was mighty close to the drive sprocket that way...any ideas, chain might be a little tight..

Just sharing, ask anything you want,
I did most of my research on here and electric bike, this place is great resource..I almost went with the BBSHD, but went cheaper route :). And for what it is worth this motor is not loud (by my standards) the fat tires are louder than the motor at 10+ MPH.

TIP for anyone, stretchy self adhering silicone tape is an awesome product!!

Welcome, and thanks for posting. I'm looking forward to hear from you on which upgrades were the best bang for the buck.

um a new bike?? LOL

seriously....

BUT, I was kinda in a real big hurry to get an ebike build going, and was looking at bbshd and a much better bike, but realized if I did not get something now it was not going to happen for months (if ever)due to monetary and relationship issues. :)

I work about 2 miles away and the state law in IL is 20mph or under..so for what I need this will be fine for now I hope.

Thanks for all of your posts I have read many of them...

I work about 2 miles away

That is the single best thing I ever did to make a positive change in my life, moving so I lived close to work. Quite a few years ago, I had a very good paying job at McDonnel Douglas (now owned by Boeing), but...the houses around that part of southern California were hugely expensive. The only way i could afford a house would be to drive a long commute. This sounds crazy to me as I am typing these words, but it often took me an hour to get to work, and more than that to get home.

Tons of miles on my car, thousands of gallons of gasoline burned a year to get one person to work, my job was at the mercy of even a minor car breakdown. Time away from my family that I would never get back. Lots of stress and no time for myself, either.

Now, since I live close to work, a minor car breakdown just means I can get a ride from any one of several people, or I can ride my ebike. Short distance means my 1991 Toyota is still running strong with fairly low miles on it (no buying another car every 3-5 years). It takes just a hair under 15 minutes to get there, or to come home. I can spend plenty of time with my wife, so she's happy.

Living close to work and owning an ebike takes a huge load off of my shoulders.
