Moderators deleting forum content?

Status

There are a couple dozen times I deleted one copy of a double-post, with no way to record why I did it. Not to save server space, just to speed up the flow of reading through important threads...mostly threads that are stickie-worthy. I never deleted something because I didn't like it. Just because I don't like or agree, doesn't mean others don't find some value in a certain perspective...There's even a few guys I really don't like, but they do post good ebike info, so...

I asked Thud if I could correct some of the spellings in his posts (he said yes). I wouldn't dare change the material. If only I could get all the stuff in his brain to be written down in a book!

Maybe I'm retarded, but what the hell does that mean? Besides reminding me of dauntless-logic- (everyone's favorite self proclaimed righteous postmodernist), I make no sense of it. It obviously wasn't a 'double post', and what does stickies or the spelling of another senior member's posts have to do with anything?

'Maybe?' You mean besides that you're slow on the uptake?

CENTRIST Post Modernist, but at least you got 'Everyone's favorite' right. In the case of Mr Magnets it means he's got the moderation thing down pat. What he wrote is very clear, you don't need my education to write or even to read that.

It means he avoids being opinionated in moderating, as is right. It means he pays special attention to what detracts from the more important subject matter, as is valuable. It means he ASKS how he can help make the material more readable, conscious of Hippocrates and trying to "First do no harm."

The reason his message is hard for you to understand is because you don't care. But he does care, so that's why he's a good moderator. It's also why he has the patience to put up with YOU behaving this way.

(Oh, what does THIS have to do with anything? Instead of 'Hard' I accidently typed ". . . .Is fard for you. . . ." In a response to you. Everyone else will get the Fruedian slip, though you'll have trouble.)

On 11/22/16 got a Topic reply notification regarding "This is how I've always gotten things from women" by morph999
Disappeared on or soon after 11/22/16

I did find it in the log:
Wed Nov 23, 2016 1:12 am Deleted topic “This is how I've always gotten things from women” written by
» morph999

One of the moderators deleted it.
I didn't see a reason listed, but I suspect someone found the post offensive or otherwise against one of the rules.
Who is the Moderator who deleted this?
Why was the entire topic deleted? If one post was offensive? Why not just delete that post?
Please, please, please, hit the restore button.

Note to the Moderator who deleted part of the most important words written in the history of written words, I forgive you and I still love you. Thanks for moderating.

May the words, ideas, thoughts, and feelings of Morph999 live on till the end of time............

I think the point is that it is the ORIGINAL POST by Master Morph which is---Ahead of it's time. The moderator, who may well be one of your fellow disciples of the Master, may well have thought it best to withhold such an important message until mankind is---Ready. It could take many generations for this world to prepare for the resonation of the Master Morph's transcendentalism, as others have not devoted their lives to such preparation, as thee has.

May the words, ideas, thoughts, and feelings of Morph999 live on till the end of time. . . .

I believe I have found clues as to the disappearance of the Master Morph. I'm not sure if he would be present here, or if these are additional followers left in his wake. It appears hopes remain hight.

That's a string of accounts that there's been no login in 5-6 years, banned, etc. One says it was created almost 4 years ago and no logins since that day. Interesting profile:

Can you make just one thread in the general discussion titled, "Questions morph999 has, can you help?" or similar and put ALL your basic questions there? When I browse the forums, lately I've been seeing more and more posts asking basic questions whose answers can be found with simple Google search skills.

Sorry, there is not "Restore" or "Undelete" button, only a delete button.
You could possibly find it using the Wayback Machine: http://archive.org/web/web.php

There's no old backups or anything?

If not fear not. The divine message of the Master Morph lives on. Soon we shall be ready to move to the next plane.

Yeah, I know. Dauntless does have a way of fouling up others' topics/ threads . . .
but we do have 'free speech' and all.

I do wonder who 'it' is a fractal of on here though. 10 to 1 that's what 'it' is imo, and unworthy of even a glance. Opposition should be highly valued, but there needs to be some evidence it's not simple anonymous trolling.

On the topic. Just like a 'dauntless' personality, is the Mod/Admn that deleted the thread not conceding? I personally don't care or expect impact on that thread or choice deletions or any mod/admn action, but there's many issues that evidence an underlying unhealthiness on this forum. The most major would be accountability, double standards, and unclear/illogical rules/guidelines imo.

Or was your earlier post the concession that you did it SM? It's unclear to me.

Come On Fechter - I don't have a smart phone but I am no dummy. Looked at the Wayback Machine way long time ago. Please go back and look at that moderator log.

It might look something like image below? Who is the moderator who deleted the topic “This is how I've always gotten things from women” written by

Please see list of global_moderators. Fechter why is your name on this list? Your name is RED and you are not a moderator. I thought you were the sharpest tool in the shed! That explains it. You are not able to play with the inner workings of this forum. You the look and don't touch guy.
Global moderators
This is a special group, special groups are managed by the board administrators.
Fechter - PLEASE get some help! Think that any of the 10 moderators on the list can retrieve the lost writing of our beloved Morph. Spinningmagnets I can see you looking at this.

If all else fails I will hire the Russian hackers who altered our recent election to hack into the server and retrieve the lost topic. Bet ya Ypedal could take the server apart with a screwdriver and get the words out of it.

This is really important. Today in Buffalo NY we had our first snow of the season. Perhaps if I could learn more about:
“This is how I've always gotten things from women”
I could find a Women to shovel snow in my driveway so I can get the car out.

Of course I know who deleted it, I'm just not saying. There were a large number of topics pertaining to women's shoes deleted at the same time.

This version of forum software makes restoring a deleted thing like this nearly impossible. There are backups of some kind (I presume), but I do not have access to them. I suspect it would be difficult to pull a single post out of a backup file. If the server crashed and the entire database needed to be restored, it would be easy. Backups are done automatically on a frequent schedule to minimize the number of lost posts in the event of a crash/restore. Older versions of the backups are overwritten by the newer ones. Something that was deleted a while ago is not likely to exist in the backup files.

The moderator group will have some kind of discussion about this.

Oh boy, should I just link and LINK and LINK the embarrassing moments for the guy?

I know, that would be providing the sort of sane reality that ruins everything for you. As is reminding you of the reality that there's NOTHING for the moderators to concede. Oh darn, I'm fouling up your fantasy that YOU get to make this something accusatory. You need to learn what 'Fouling Up' even means. A mirror alone won't provide message enough.

So tell me, nut that you are, what ARE those messages from the moderators that you're fouling things up like? I wouldn't know, I haven't gotten one. While people found Morph interesting, it was largely because he WAS doing things to get those messages. But he could be entertaining. Do you wish you could be? I could tell you how to start, such with NOT posting to continue stirring the pot after you've already started something. . . .

(And there you see the REAL reason moderators love my posts even when they hate them. The proper approach. It has nothing to do with some 'Fractals' hidden in my writing, Mandelbrot. Others need only read this thread to understand.)

You know what? That's great you discuss, but don't feel like us saner, more appreciative members think you have to answer for it. Snap decisions, whatever. Most of us live in the real world and experience these things. Even the original poster is trying to keep the inquiry all in fun. It's only the usual suspect there who acts like it's part of the conspiracy to foul up his efforts to inject his ugliness. Such is life.

When there's a will there's a way.

Restoring a deleted topic from PHPBB.

Copy of the same:
Recover a deleted topic.
https://www.phpbb.com/support/docs/en/3.0/kb/article/recover-a-deleted-topic/

Good Luck!

So, you're implying this topic was 'accidentally' deleted with a poorly written MYSQL databases delete query?

That's pretty good timing considering my "offensive post"(I'm so sorry I'm so explicit with how much women seem to want me at times.) was /just/ posted to his thread just the day before. But, I could see it happening given the right circumstances, uh huh.

Btw, the most popular database softwares typically keep recently deleted records in their log so they can be reversed. This is part of the reason why they take much so much god awful disk space.

Just give me the database server's IP, port number, a username and password and I'll get to town with this!
