mon-goose to MON-STER

Just opened the motor and after testing lost of points for conductivity I found the thermostat shell was conductive to the wire and had become shorted to the stator because the epoxy had broken down from heat I guess.

Jay, I should have used the silicone sleeve you gave me with the thermostat.

So now I've heat shrinked it with the double wall glue stuff. I'll epoxy and cable tie that to the stator.
I've got the thermistor running with the CA v3 so I don't really need the thermostat but its a good safety precaution.

all good Bozi. all fixed. it looks a bit tidyer in there now but the main thing is it working and not shorting out any wires.
i got the temp set to wind back from 115ºC and cut at 135ºC so that should give 3kw at 125 and 1 kw at 130 . seeing as i have the 10k thermistor directly under the windings it should be a fairly acurate reading and i am willing to push it a bit considering i still have the thermostat as well. i think it would be very unlikely to go higher than 150ºC on the halls with this combination.
so ill ride it to work tomorow or if im not too confident about it ill take the scott spark.
the bikes looking prety good with the new wheel and black gloss hub now and i have the 24v horn working to. when scope was riding it i actually wasnt sure if it was a car on the road or him behind me. should be good for the road.
oh yeah and i finaly got ms movie maker, so i can make some decent you tube vids that are edited with music instead of my stupid phone videos just uploaded raw.

I've ridden the monster to work and back the last 2 days and its all good. The windings got to 90°C at the end of a 7 km commute. After about 10 min its down to 68°C.

Sweet. Nice to hear it's all sorted!
thanks mate.
heres a video of my new wheel and horn. didn't plan what i was going to say too much and i didnt hold the camera angle right when i was talking about the light plug pack dc-dc converter but here it is...

i beeped the horn at the end so the ppl accross the road would look over and see me talking into my phone while i use it as a camera. kinda awkies. haha

awesome man. I love the monster stickers - didn't realise it was literally the monster bike.

So lights and horn run off a seperate lipo from the rest of the pack?

I reckon to complete the look of your bike you should paint the swingarm, torque arm etc all those bits and pieces back there black. will unify to look slicker.

dam you got lots of wires dangling at the front.

Where and how much for the rim?

anyways great to see it back working.

Nah lights and horn run off main pack. Watch the vid a few times... horn is tapped off a 6s pack that's in series in the 24s pack.
Light runs off plug pack dc-dc converter. 100-12v
Mushy Mellon and Hyena suggested that paint job and I'm getting there. I will cheat and leave the arm on and mask bits and spay it.
Rim from wheelandsprocket on ebay

so this happened when i was adjusting the throttle ramp up 'cos it the power was jerking a bit on WOT take offs.
broken axle.JPG
needless to say i was frocking devo'ed!
Im looking into getting a new axle. Anyone have one or know where to get one?

It broke just as i was about to leave work so time wasnt an issue, i got a 6 pack and started walking the 7km home. ive done it b4 and it was a nice day so yeah. then after i crossed the road from work I hear some one yell my name. It was my old kung fu teacher that has come riding with me before, i waved him over (he was going the other way). so he has a old corolla
79_83_toyota_corolla_500.jpg

so we dismantled the bike, took the wheel off, took the bar and forks off. tucked it in the boot and hung the back wheel out.
only took a couple minuets to reassemble at home. i payed him with pizza :)

so i got a bit pissed and did some laps in the backyard on the scott spark then did a ride down the street to cool down the motor. High sided and hit my thumb that was still clicking from the last stack. i think it might be broken. grazed my arm but skin heals quick so that doesnt bother me to much.

i might just get another ht3525 and swap the stator over. bit anoying i only got about 50km on this newly laced wheel.

Ouch on both fronts. You're not having a good week!

I dont have any axles but this ES member in the UK has one. Not sure what it'd cost to ship over but might worth checking out.

now im sober after work, looking again and can you explain in more detail in noob terms, what happened to the axle? too much torque? ....

Thanks Jay, I'll look into it. On one hand I want to just buy a new motor, on the other I could save money with a new axlend and replace.
Bozi, I had an issue with a stutter of power with full throttle from stationary. It esentialy torque hammered the axle off.
I re read the ca v3 guide and realised i had it programmed all wrong.
Thumb was ok for work. Even did a bit of kung fu tonight.
So yeah just need to sort out axle.
To be honest i woke up at 2:30 am worried i wouldnt be able to work today. And a dream about some punk stealing the front half of my car. WTF?!

so the torque arms are stronger than the axle. I guess its good that it didnt rip the dropouts and twist the crap out of every wire in the motor.

Next question is would this happen if you were running less juice?

Would this have happened if the controller was doing the controlling instead of the ca 3?

final final question is how can you set it all wrong? what were the settings that you had and should have had? I'm imagining you set it to do wheelies or something.

anyways the dood stole the front of your bike because the back was froked...

Yeah the torque arms are 10mm steel clamped on bolted and hose clamped to chain stay.
CA v3 was set to ramp up too fast . Controller could sense that the wheel wasn't moving fast enough for the throttle input, or the CA closed loop power throttle algorithm throttle output was fluctuating extreamly rapidly(did u get that Bozi?)
If the controller was the cause of fluctuations of power then the CA could save it if programed with a more reserved throttle up ramp. But imo could still be rather quick, like 0 to 6kw in 1 second.
Anyway
Got a reply from John K and Justin. Bloody phone wasn't showing new emails.
Anyway. Should be getting this sorted for sure.
Not sure about axle removal.
I'm hoping I can remove the axle by tapping it out with a hammer over a sleeve. A block of nylon to save the new axle thread.
Maby I could weld up a frame and use my Nissan truck hydrolic jack. Hmm I like that idea.

WOT?

no matter...

6kw a second?

no matter...

pleasant dreams.

run out of coopers.

Supernaturally unlucky accident mate, who knew that getting pissed and going for a late night joy ride would be dangerous ?? :p Glad your Ok (ish)

I'd like to think that would never happen to me ................... but it has , heaps.

Cheers

Hell PenD, you probably hurt more after a fight. Glad nothing to serious. Just say no to riding pissed, or pissed off.

Ha I know right. I do enjoy a casual cruse after a couple beers. Not 12, that's a bit much.
But yeah I under steered on a dirt bit I cut across around a corner in front of my house.
The front wheel hit the foot path side of the road side on and over I went.
