mon-goose to MON-STER

any thoughts on your progression?

hyena how much would you ship your crown up to brisbane for?

I might be interested in rewinding to super slow.

what is damaged on it? pm if you dont want to hijack otherwise pend needs some love right now so we should chat around here.

Was thinking though Pend will go down in the hall of fame or possibly infamy for what he has put that motor through.

haha, yeah that poor old thing. ity keeps pushing hard. Im keen to get the CA sorted, i tink i might send it back to Justin and see how he goes. as ive said iv tried updating with 3 computers and ive tried updating my other ca v3 aswell and nothing works. and the axle issue. and theres allways something else, external wires getting pulled or bent cranks , loose spokes etc etc.
pretty anoying.
balancing my cells is the least of my worries and thats been pretty good lately though, with me new dual bc168 in a heavy duty case setup. i just cant beleive it to be honest.

how do you guys like accelerating from absolute dead stop? i love WOT take offs (obviously) and blitzing traffic then casually pedeling away at 60kph. this is what i want from my bike and i dont think its too much to expect. i just need to program the CA V3 so it ramps up with no oscilation/pulsing.

still cant beleive i only got a few days from tench's fat axle. and the worst thing is i dont know for sure which paramater is causing the issue. I am starting to think its amp gain and needs to be set to 1 or maby 2 . if its proportional to amps as watt gain is to watts then it should be 100 times different (100 volts)

so:
amp gain = 1
watt gain = 100
??? in theory its mathematically correct so the both increase the same. i dont really know if they all have an effect on each other or there are multiple ramp limits going in parallel ??? its not spelled out graphically anywhere.
im guessing all the limit flags must have there own fluctuating limits going on, ramps etc.
and also throttle.

Ive read the CA V3 manual and still dont really know what to do. and after playing with it for hours... i dont know. i like to have a plan, and for this i have nothing. except keep breaking axles until i luck upon a random combination of setting that does what i want? any1 got ideas how i can form a plan of attack here? and not sugestions like new controller or "is it the throttle?", if you want to help me please read the recent posts so you know where im at. everything is ok except my ca wont update and i cant get it to stop pulsing with WOT take off from stationary.

post this in the ca thread teletek or someone will sort you out.

I got my bike going 21s2p again

yesterday redid throttle extension which was sending me wot without doing anything.

now I notice a pulse when accelerating hard - bit like 3 short bursts when i go wot and then it stays constant....

not sure if its the same.

dumb question, if you disconnect ca does your throttle work how you want? i know mine does, but with ca power creeps on at the start...

Boz, if you want the crown it'll be $800 :p
There's nothing wrong with it and it has a nice new big fat axle now. I think you're mixing it up with the H40, that was the one I smoked. It you want the H40 for a rewinding project send me a PM. I was going to throw it up for sale but haven't gotten around to it yet.
If your throttle is creeping at the start you need to adjust your min v-in v-out settings. With my sine controller I could hear a faint high pitched squeel when I turned the bike on when I had it adjusted too close. Not enough to make the bike move but if I lifted the back wheel it'd suddenly spin to WOT which needless to say caught me off guard pretty badly the first time!

Ken, speaking of H40s the axle should take the sort of WOT bursts you're after. You saw what I put my old H40 through on the fighter, I was never gentle with it (to the point where I snapped several sapim strong spokes and it saw a heap of full throttle launches with higher peak and sustained current limits than you're running. I also ran a H40 in the EV race recently at 12kw and aside from smoking it from being stupidly overpowered the axle held up fine to frequent WOT bursts.

Sorry I can't be much help with the CA settings, I've not got a heap of experience with tweeking the V3 and thankfully I managed to get the raptor running on 12kw fairly smoothly after minimal trial and error (if you call minimal error breaking my spine in the process  ) How did this problem come about ? Did it used to be smooth and through ongoing playing with settings it got worse ? I dont recall it being an issue when I rode it ~6 months ago

well thats a good question!

it may have been my GF's little brother but i dont know. it may have been me trying to iron out the pulsing and making it do it to see what i could do to make it stop then actually making it worse...? not sure.

it was ok if you dont go wot from a stand still, after about 7kph its fine. but if it starts stuttering it wont accelerate and it keeps doing it for a few seconds or until the throttle is released.

im composing a set of values that i want to try...

set SLim->MaxSpeed to the maximum value, IntSGain = 100, PSGain = 0.2, DSGain = 0

amp gain = 3
watt gain = 30

up ramp = 2v/sec (not sure what value that is in the beta 21 ???)

thats it for now.

my course is done and work experiance is done. I didnt get an aprenticeship from my wor experiance but im not too woried becuase there may be better options out there that I am looking into.

also with my storeman job im going back to, the only person i didnt get allong with has been transfered and my boss is moving on aswell so thats a fresh start there while I apply for aprenticships over the short term future. It would be nice to not go through another Xmass in retail... it just kills it for me.

#tangent

so yeah while the bike is off the road i really should send the ca off to get flashed by justin, i guess i should open it to see if there is a loose wire, becuase i was able to show, using terminal that the programming plug works, and that the ca would recognize it by displaying "PC CONNECT..." so its probably some mystical gremlins.. you know just the usual.

When the upramp is set slow enough, say <2 v/second, it shouldn't ramp up so fast to damage the axle, this stuttering perhaps sounds like a controller or hall sensor issue (maybe incompatible hall sensors?).

Hmm, that sucks bigtime then!

I have the prelim 6 on there at the moment and have the flashing cord if you need it.

I know there were a few bugs with it, the bug that I had wasn't fixed until recently (it wouldn't boot properly each time), but Justin organised a (working) fix which was first tested by me, so I was happy in the end...

That's heaps good.
If you can help me flash the ca v3 I'dreally aappreciate it. My cord seems OK. iI'm not sure where I'm going wrong.
I have used similar drivers to flash my arduino but I have un installed it first. Not sure.

The bigger issue is the down ramp, I learned the hard way what happens when you wheelie on 12kw and the downramp is too slow!

I've you've never flashed the CA firmware before and it's not the grin supplied one your adaptor is likely the problem. Ideally they should work but I've had a number of issues flashing various controllers and other devices before so now I always get the specific programmer for each device to save the headaches. Then it's just the your computers OS/drivers you need to worry about!

You home today ? The tracking on your care package hasn't updated since friday but I'm guessing it should probably be delivered today or tomorrow based off previous stuff I've sent to Adl.

Ah crap, I didnt realise you were running 24S and a 3525 before! (I thought it was one of my old 18S 3540 kits)
In that case, yeah, it's gonna be a little speedy
When this baby hits 88km/hr you're gonna see some serious shit

This should cure your acceleration woes, I think you'll be impressed with the mid range pull.

I see. Well I'm thinking the inefficiency in the 5kph range will be made up for by its extra copper and to be honest more than 90% of my riding is on flat so it will be fine.
The doc is correct as you say.

Do you want me to send you a 4065 ?
Why don't you pack the box back up and hold it there for me to move at a later date and I'll send you something better suited for your higher voltage setup ?

sheesh I was trying to work out what the package was didnt know pend had bought anything - this explains it....

I wouldn't go a fast motor either. temptation is there but I reckon you'd regret the torque.

If you live on flat plains with long stretches of no stop and go it may turn out more efficient.

I recently rode with another guy using 4065 26" seeled wheel, end of ride I used half his AH, half his temperature in motor and controller, and accerated away faster especially on hills.

I imagine Hyena would have swallowed the camera or at least looked like this

4065 on 24s , 26" should top out at 70kph on flat?
on hookworms my 26" on 18s hit 70kmh on flats.

especially in the part where I disappeared out of view and then he almost rammed me side on for not indicating toward the start of the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kKjuudZMPR8&list=PLzqojlpNeKR3t_VglNJXlBRmy_6rz9GuX&index=9

My 21s 19" rim worn down 2.5" knobs 60amps hits 65kmh max on flat depending on state of charge but 60 kmh is easy.

its the shear accelration up a hill to 50 that makes me get excited faster than any car would attempt and you know how loud that would be.

5000w on 30kg bike....

74kph with 24" 4065 21S and 25.6"(mesured on flat and no 5% extra =) (Halo contra)

stressing out
For my own sanity I'm making a list of tasks.

Fix ca v3. Open and inspect then send to Justin if not damaged.
Find a plc I'm happy with and buy it.
Start the electrical for my aquaponics plc project.
Start the plumbing for the same project.
Link ntc in Scottspark to the ca v3.
Drill and thread grub screws in the jackshaft xl pulley (bmx)
Tune programming for bmx, faster on controller and slower on arduino.
Various housework bizo.
Yay, feel better already :)
Its a fair list I guess.

Allright.

CA V3 is on its way back with a new cord. turns out the ground wire had no conductivity. Lucky , or would think I'm going crazy. the cord was the only common thing with using 2 different ca v3s and 3 computers, 1 with linux and win xp. So when I get it back ill have a new 7 speed and a 5 speed in the pack, also 2x3mm washers, and 1 x 5mm washer. so i can use a combination and try and get the 7 speed to fit and keep the 11 tooth ratio for high speed pedaling with the h4065.

My aquaponics programable logic controller project is almost finished as well so i can focus again on ebike fixing and riding :)

I'm also considering buying a small lathe and cnc mill so i can make axles for myself and hopefully sell some to pay for the machinery.

any tips on CNC Mill buying?

I have a lathe picked out that cuts thread and is a nice size for doing axles and other small parts.

also, Tench, the resident axle maker is MIA . If im going to one day make an 18kw raptor ill need a serious custom axle, or 2 or three... theres just no way ill be able to acheive that goal with-out a big fat custom axle.

but for now, its monster and aquaponics. heres where im at with the later:
aquaponics.JPG
probably doesnt look like much but thats 2 fish tanks flowing into each other with float switches and a custom made led grow light. basically just need to plug everything into the PLC that I have programed with a menu for light timming and pump delay on, fan on temp, heater on temp.

Yah, building some custom axles would be the way to go. I was looking at the one that Jay had built for his crown with the 16x10 axle flat. They are spendy but worth it. How much were Tench's axles you had built?
