Mongoose Blackcomb

scianiac- thanks for the warning. This is the first time I've ever used the Android version (6.05) to program, and it's really stripped down vs the laptop... I don't know where to find a downgrade to 6.02 for the phone or Windows laptop, or if that version totally works with the supposed 6.02 firmware loaded in the V2 75200 unit in hand. User jaykup on the esk8 forum apparently modified an FSESC_75_200_ALU firmware for the previous model...

Yeah if I recall jaykups modded firmware did resolve some of the very noisy signals but I think they addressed the issue on this version, it was running the opamps from the 5v rail if I recall. 6.05 though includes some features that improve noise as well and if I recall I did get a little better performance tuning wise with 6.05 on the 75200 pro V2 but as always if the motor is running well now probably no need to upgrade.

Motor runs very well. Had an intermittent dead throttle problem that has been improved by shutting off the "safe start" function. Still sorting...

A tidbit of info that may be of use to others: my "dead throttle" turned out to be a bad Hall sensor(s). It's a brand new EC4P motor so I could be excused for not suspecting that.

While riding, after returning throttle to zero it would intermittently go dead and either recover after about 5 to 10 seconds, or not, in which case turning the chain manually to reposition the motor shaft angle would kick it back in. A real pain without direct drive as you can't just roll the bike a foot... and of course unacceptable.

The throttle itself seemed to be normal and mapped correctly twice in vesc tool, it's definitely wired correctly, the 75200 controller indicates the proper LED blue/green and responds to input, plus, and most importantly, I finally noticed the faint sound of current being applied to the motor indoors on the test stand. I went back into vesc tool and simply switched from "hall sensors" to "sensorless". Problem solved.

I'm running 150 battery amps, 250A motor, 400A absolute max. Response is very smooth with plenty of torque. Must get started on the 20s battery for more top end.

My sprag bearing freewheel is working well thus far after a repair described in my other thread, but cool weather has prevented extensive testing. The #25 bearing does not slip at all.

Since ebikes have been my main retirement hobby for a while now, I continue to refine them as necessary. Made a few upgrade mods.

As compared to the pic on page 7, I swapped out the one piece carbon bar/stem for a shorter reach stem and inverted alloy bars that are pretty similar to clubman motorcycle bars. Much better angles and less squirrely since the carbon unit didn't have enough sweep back and stem was too long.

New wider rounder 2.1 front tire better matches the 2.3 rear than the previous 1.75 tire. Corners better, more stable at speed.

Made a slightly larger and stiffer seat platform with 3/8" plywood base.

Took the motor apart for a mod descibed in my EC4P thread in the Motors section.

A significant improvement was finally swapping on a NOS Fox Vanilla air shock I had lying around. The original cheapo coil shock was too soft with lousy damping. Running 175psi. I had no 3/16" aluminum stock on hand so decided to bolt on extensions to the 2 linkage plates as pictured for the altered geometry, which also raised the back end 1.5". Had to turn several delrin and uhmw bushings and spacers. All good, no suspension lash.

I don't like the silver paint I used on the battery, so at some point will paint the sides black, and make flat lid straps to replace the 4 obtrusive looking angle pieces. In retrospect, I'd have built the battery as 4 layers x 5 cells long for aesthetics... Also not totally thrilled with the Samsung 50s. Good mid range torque and perhaps more range than p42a's but not as much top end. Can only get to 55mph with some tailwind. Plus cell groups don't stay as even on charger, though they top and bottom self balance with some time delay and use. If Molicel p50b's drop in price I'll buy 100 next year.

Oh- should also add that the CSK25PP sprag bearing sprockets I started out with and described previously kept failing due to broken outer races, so I built 2 heavier mechanisms with CSK30PP bearings that are working well...
