Hello
I have a weird issue,
I bought a 5k watt hub motor and a controller from aliexpress, the install was easy and the spin test was great with no load, when the wheel is off the ground the motor sound fine and the speed on the display look ok too.

But when i took the bike for a test run the motor was making grinding noises and the display did not read any speed 0 km/h all the ride.

I noticed after a minute that the cables of the motor are really hot for the touch.

So i turn it off and pedaled the way back.

Any ideas any one?

Motor hub 5000w 60v72v
Controller 5000w 48v- 72v
Battery 60v 50a

I followed tommycat guide, i also tried all 6 combinations and 3 makes the motor stuck 2 make it grind badly and only one is running smoothly (testing with no load wheels off ground).

Are you using a molex connector for the halls? If the speed stopped registering, then continuity to one of the halls may be intermittent, and sometimes the pins backout from the connector if they aren’t snapped into the housing fully.

I have the same problem I think when I turn the pedal the motor kicks in for a second but makes a grinding sound when I press - for walk mode it makes a whining sound I have changed the phase wire combinations but that does not help the Hals connection combination could be wrong at the moment its colour to colour matching should I switch the three Hals wires around could that be a possibility I've had this new controller for 2 months and still can't get it to work I have enclosed photos of controller and motor my Hals connection has 6 wires I believe I would leave white to white and black to black and red to red and swap the other three I read somewhere that some controllers do not match colour to colour all the time my display is a 750c

...I read somewhere that some controllers do not match colour to colour all the time...
Yes correct.

...should I switch the three Hals wires around could that be a possibility...
You should follow the process systematically, do not skip steps! In the chart linked in post #3 above in this thread.
