Motor spins for 1 second and dies

I picked up two non working machwheel scooters.

I couldn’t get them to power on via the displays so have attempted to bypass the control display go for the controller.

I would like to troubleshoot the issue before I go ordering new parts if it’s even worth it.

Here’s what I know so far:

Originally a set of cables would go to the display from the controller. It looks like the display is fed with battery voltage and then reduces to 5v as light, throttle and brake are connected to the display.

The battery seems original 36v battery, I’ve charged it up full and says it’s 39.5v.

I unplugged all connections only kept what I think I need, those are:

3 phase and hall sensors for motor

Blue and white cable that goes from controller to battery

A blue VCC wire onto a positive coming off the board. This positive is battery voltage that would have gone to the display and the blue VCC wire is the ignition. As once connected I get the reduced voltages 5v across the board, where as before I would have nothing. I have not connected the negative wire to anything though.

I checked voltage on various areas of the controller board and the 5v area is only outputting 4.3v.

I then took a positive and negative from the above rail which was going to a light at the back previously and hooked that up to the throttle along with white sensor wire. I’ve tested the throttle and the voltage varies depending on amount of throttle.

So far all seems good but I’m still not really getting life.

Every now and then if I unplug and plug in the motor spins for a second and stops. This happens when I use the throttle. Then nothing at all, it’s hard to replicate this as it’s never consistent.

Battery voltage is the same before and after I get a second of life. The other scooter has a 48v battery and I get the same result with that plugged in except battery voltage is 40v.

I have also connected volt meter to the phase wires and spun the wheel. It generates power maybe 4v or so.

Not sure how to check hall sensors?
Maybe need to check the output signal or volts being sent for the motor? Again not sure how I would do this.

First time getting into all this so I’ve just learned all of this in the last few days.

I’m just seeing if I can get it working with the parts I have ideally.

I’ve only done what I said in the original post.

So I should test the motor yes.

I quickly checked resistance across across all three phases and got 0.4 ohms, slight difference of 0.1 between some of the them. Also checked for clogging and I got that too.

The 5v bar that hosts the hall sensors lines have 5v across + & - and 3v across each sensor and negative.

A 36v battery should be at 42v when fully charged. Seems like maybe you have a battery issue. When you run the motor, the battery will sag. Probably sagging (9v!) below its Low Voltage Cutoff.

Or perhaps your charger isn’t suppling the proper voltage.
