Hi Guys,
I have just installed a MXUS 3k motor on my ebike with and INFINEON 12fet controller. I haven't plugged it for regen breaking and Im still waiting to receive ebrakes, so I'm just using normal brakes now. When I'm driving and I release the throttle and go into coasting I sometime freewheel but other times hear a sudden noise in the motor and feel that it is braking. WHat could this be due to, is there anyway to get rid of that deceleration when I coast?
Thanks for your help!

Your controller has "slip regen" braking programmed in. This will activate a light regen braking force when you release the throttle, and is more noticeable at higher speeds. You can disable it with the programming software.

It could be a few things. an intermittent short on the phase wires could cause this. water getting into the connector for the ebrake could as well.

Another possibility is that your coasting speed has exceeded the theoretical maximum motor speed for the batteries voltage. As long as the motor is connected to the controller, the FETs, even though they are off, leak just enough current to cause the motor to generate voltage. thats what causes the cogging effect on a hub motor. it's not much current, but the voltage is present. When your motor RPMs hit a point where that voltage is higher than the pack voltage by enough to trigger the FET's gate, then the FETs all come on and you get a hard short for a moment. it feels like hitting a brick wall, but it goes away as soon as the RPM drop below their maximum.
