The wiring is a bit different. All the connections seem the same except the throttle connector which is comlpetely different. The 48v thumb throttle has 4 wires - purple white black red. The controller has just 3 wires - red green black. Any ideas?

I'd go red to red, black to black, and green to white. The purple one goes to the led's for the low battery light. You could wire that to the + going into the controller I suppose.

Thanks Dogman. I just did that. I also found a photo explaining which wire did what and you were right but ..... nothing. I have lights on the thumb throttle but nothing else. If I unplug the throttle and I measure the output from the controller side it says 4 volts. When I connect the throttle up with it it says 3 volts. When I push the thumb throttle there is 3v reading on the black and red and a zero reading on the black and white wires - I'm flummoxed !

Is there a way to spin the wheel using the controller but without the throttle - just to see if it works?

Ok this is what I just did, I got a 3v battery, unplugged the throttle put the minus of the 3 volt battery onto the black and the plus onto the white of the controller throttle connector. The wheel spun but made quite an unhappy noise. I put the OLD controller on did the same thing and the wheel spun up nice and quietly.

Am I right in thinking that the throttle is not working ? but that both controllers are working fine ? Also, the strange sound when the ecrazyman controller spins up- is that because the phase wires are the wrong way round > I have yellow to yellow blue to blue green to green but I guess that might not mean anything as the parts come from different manufacturers. Any way of working this out. I have checked this forum using the search but cant seem to find the answer to this.

Any help appreciated. So near yet so far..............

By the way, ecrazyman sent my stuff very fast, the throttle controller and pedelec were perfect when they got here, whatever 's wrong is my fault.

Phase and hall wires need switched on e crazy. A thread here somewhere has it.

Leave the blues alone and switch green and yellow at both the phase and hall connectors. Good luck.

controller phase / hall
green --- yellow

yellow -- green

blu --- blu

Thank you icewrench, it's midnight here so I'll do that in the morning.

Check out knuckles posts about phase wire connection testing.
Use a small fuse until the motor spins smooth quiet and fast.

The wiring suggestion above works on a bmc to e crazy controller.
What motor are you using ? Good luck :D

Im using a a nine continents motor. There is a storm outside, looks like I wont be able to work on the bike till it clears off. I'll spend the day look at posts about throttles and controllers and motors I guess.

Thanks

Fixed it up today .......... Success!!!!!

I've been a bit too busy the last week and a bit - sorry for the delay in updating.

Seems I have 2 working controllers now :D

Just in time for me starting back at work too.

Thank you all for your help.

what amp rating is the controller?
how does it run?....what speed? does it have more torque?

The wiring for a nine continents is exactly as Icewrech said (thanks Icewrench).

The ecrazyman is a 30amp controller the other from Ampedbikes is 22 amps.

I tried both out today and to be completely honest I couldn't tell any difference in performance between the two. I went up a pretty steep hill near my home and swapped around the controllers and they both felt exactly the same. The speed of the Apmedbikes controller is 30mph at 48v, I didnt check the top speed of the Ecrazyman.

I'm not sure what I think about the throttle yet

It's a bit more discrete than the boxy one I had before but the spring seems a bit tough and because of the shape of the plastic where the wire goes out you cant orientate the thumb lever as far round as you could my previous one. However, it works, it's very cheap and I guess I could always mod it into a twist throttle if I need to.

Anyway, it's very nice to have them all wired, plugged up and sorted. So now I have 1 working throttle and motor, 2 working controllers, and 2 broken (fused) throttles - anyone know how to rescue a fused throttle? :D

I just got my new ecrazyman 36v controller and had the same problem- mismatched wiring plugs. I used your advice, Iceman, to switch the phase wiring and the controller actually worked for a few seconds!

I was playing around with some wires a few minutes later and managed to switch the green and white wire when connecting the throttle LED power to the battery. Next thing I know my throttle is smoking. Now nothing works. Ah well, comes with the hobby...
