I have a Lashout bike that I recently got some ping 48v 20Ah Dimension: 195x210x150 mm / 7.7x8.3x5.9 inches 21.90 lbs I need a solid pannier that can hold these battery and could protect them in a crash. Any suggestions. I was looking at something like this

City Box Pannier http://www.bikemania.biz/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=BW_CityBox But how would I know if it will fit on my lashout rack?

I don't think that plastic pannier box is going to hold a monster sized 48V 20 AH ping battery.

What is the weight capacity for that box?

I have a 48 volt 15 ah ping battery that I keep in an Ortlieb trunk bag on a tubas rack. From my research Tubas has the highest load rating of any rack I could find, which is important with a battery that heavy plus other stuff I carry in my panniers. The 15 ah battery fits in the Ortlieb trunk bag with just enough roof tom have an inch of foam padding all the way around it. I would be hesitant to have all the weight of a 20 ah battery on one side, if you can split it to carry half on each side your bike will handle a lot better. I carry my battery on the rack and I can definitly feel the weight that high up, luckily I'm 6'3" 200lbs so I can handle it.

Yeah, most hard shell panniers, even for motorcycles, tend to be narrower than 8 inches. Not sure about the dimensions of the city box, Maybe it is big enough if made for a grocery bag. There are the baskets made to fit a paper grocery sack though.

Edit, looks like the city box is just big enough. Nashbar has em on sale sometimes. Axxiom is my favorite brand, when looking for a good strong pannier rack.

There are lots of bag type panniers that big, and it's quite easy to make a custom box for your ping. I have boxed up batteries using large aluminum baking pans, plastic sheet cut from a storage tote box, and coroplast political signs. So you could just make a box, and carry in a good bag, such as a back pack or pannier. Perhaps even a small carry on bag.
