Love the b/b mount neat easy at should fit any bike with a b/b. :)
Interesting comment in the Greenspeed newsletter as well.

"We have been using the Bionx power assistance kit for sometime now, but while it is an advanced unit with direct drive wheel motor and regenerative braking, we have had some reliability problems."

That and the reluctance of Bionx to supply the 350 watt unit to them are the reasons stated for looking at possibly going to the system in the pdf.

Anyone know any other data on the system?

A glance at the pic seems to show a custom made frame, rather than the generic BB.

I would be skeptical of the kit's ability to adapt to an existing bike.

The picture of the kit parts shows a bracket which looks as if it's retained by the bottom bracket cups.

Ah, I see... a bit confusing, the different pix.

BB drive is a fine idea, I'd like to see more elegant implementation tho.

The axial brushless motor sounds interesting too. I can't tell if you have to pedal when the motor is running. The idea of mounting through the bottom bracket seems like a good one.

Are the threads in bottom brackets fairly standard?

I wonder how much it would cost to have a frame and motor package built in China? Something like the Optibike, but priced for the average person.

Just a WAG, but battery aside, you know it's gonna be under 1K$ in quantity.
If it's possible to make a complete bike that will do 80 to 90 percent the performance of the Optibike at one quarter the price, as high as 2k$ total package, Optibike may pucker their sphincter just a bit.

Pretty nice. Looks like it may have the potential to beat the MY1018, I can see this on my Oryx. Would fear bashing it to bits due to it's vulnerable position though. Let's hope they'll sell the motor/bb drive thing close to what a MY1018 goes for, without controller throttle batteries or other crap.

In the picture it appears to be barely lower than the chain ring.
Also dependent upon the frame there appears to be a good chance of mounting up in between the seat and head set frame.
As soon as GS indicate they have the test unit I will be emailing for more data.
It appears to be a pedal assist only unit, the only question is has the change to non contact pedal input detection removed the torque sensing?

There is really only 2 styles of b/b thread in common use these days and one is only used on elcheapo, some BMX and kids singles speeds that is the larger diameter one piece style. Basically if your bike has removable cranks (called 3 piece) it will fit.

These look like very neat little units.

May the red BMX type one is Y95,000 (£400)

The specs say a 64Whr per battery which is pretty small around 15mins at 250w.

And I think you'd have to hack around with the controller to make it throttle controlled and reset the speed restriction.

BTW, I'm new to this forum.

I'm thinking of building up a little (250w) bike using a motorised bottom bracket with double freewheels and driving through a geared hub, or possibly a NuVInci.

The idea is to be super discrete so I don't get collared by the law. (200w-250w and 15mph is all we're allowed over here).

Hi, beelbeebub,

Welcome to the forum.

They might be a bit noisy with all that gear reduction, though - I should imagine the motor speed is at least 5000 rpm...

You might also want to a consider a tiny, Tongxin hubmotor on the front or rear. If I remember, they're good for about 400w sustained.

The page you refer to (well found by the way) is for the older brushed motor version, apparently the brushless is a really new design and meant to be way better in the milage dept.

The little Tonxing hub motor is 360w max. and also continuos (sticker rating 160 watt :). it is so subtle that I have had riders look over my trike and not realise it is assisted (batteries are hidden).
