I bought a 2000 K2 Razorback RS frame with the front and rear shocks today for $30 today. The reviews for it when it first was out are an outstanding 4.96/5.0 (http://www.mtbr.com/cat/bikes/bike-full/k2/2000-razorback-rs/PRD_354091_95crx.aspx). The ad mentioned that both shocks needed to rebuilt, but that's par for the course with older bikes. I just bought a shock pump last week, and I am happy to say, for now, that both shocks are doing their job. However, they could be flat by tomorrow ...
As I just have the frame, I need some advice on building it up. I am considering buying a donor bike for parts rather than buying everything one by one. I found a 1998 Mongoose NX 9.7 for $200. Are 12 year old parts XT/XTR parts worth messing with? In the newer used market, that price only gets me mid 2000 Alivio. Here's the Mongoose parts list:
Frame - Aluminum
Fork - Rock Shock
Rear Shock - Rock shox Deluxe
Brakeset - Shimano Xt
Shift Levers - Shimano XT Rapid Fire
Crank - White
Front Derailleur - Shimano XT
Rear Derailleur - Shimano XTR
