New Enduro/clone build

As title says, “Enduro/clone build”
My current set up is built on an Schwinn aluminum mountain bike frame and will be switching everything over. When I first started this project on an aluminum frame had different motor, controller and battery with way less power and now this has gotten out of control :lol:
So here we go with a steel frame! Bombs away!

-72v 20ah 20s6p - Will upgrade eventually to 40ah
-Sabvoton7280 - Will mod controller but not right away
-Mxus 3K 5T 6ml statorade with HubSink’s - 8ga phase wires
-Wheel set Halo sas 27.5” front/rear built with 13/14ga dh spokes. Probably switching to motorcycle wheels though
-Front suspension DNM-USD8
-Rear DNM coil shock/ 350lb Rock shocks spring/Might have to up the lbs.
-203mm rotors, Shimano 4 piston hydraulic MT420
-7 speed with 32tooth chairing - still like to pedal, sometimes

Considered all the different clone frames online and this one caught my eye the most. From the pictures it looks to be well finished. Found several good reviews on this frame online so went for it. Like the fact the torque arms are built into the frame.

I’ll be posting progress pictures as I build. I’m really hoping to squeeze this Sabvoton controller inside the case, but we’ll see! It’s the 80 amp version so it is smaller than the traditional 150 amp or 200 amp.

My main thing to look forward to with the stronger frame is I can ride much more aggressive off road now. I always took it easy off-road being on a Schwinn frame with so much weight. Also will enjoy the extended wheelbase to help keep the front wheel down. That’s also a plus for rolling burnouts right :wink:

So it seems that the 19 inch motorcycle wheel is a great choice. I found these rims but not sure what you guys recommend?

For the tires I’m considering 2.75 or 3”
What do you guys recommend for tires? Most of my riding is on the street but maybe I should consider a multi-purpose tire since I do some off roading. Need something that rolls smooth on the road, don’t like feeling of the nobby’s on the road.

So I’ll be using my halo mountain bike wheels at first. My plan is to go to 19 inch but I’m still considering.

I was thinking along the lines of a dirtbike set up with a slightly bigger front wheel and smaller rear wheel for better acceleration, plus keep the hub motor cooler. At this point I’m still just brainstorming on the wheel set because I still want to try out my halo mountain bike wheels. I know with the mountain bike wheels I’ll be saving a lot of weight but I don’t have that durability for hard impacts compared to Moto wheels.

Moto rims are the way to go if you want durability, but be sure you can buy the rim and tires.

Nice build but lets be honest this is not a stealth bike title is confusing, this is a chinese clone frame build, not a brand name australian make $10k bike that will last forever. I keep clicking on it expecting more

Found some Shinko 241 19 2.75.
Also found in stock Pro-wheel 19 1.85. As of now leaning toward 19” F/R but still considering the dirt bike style set up, 19/17”

Well it’s 4:50 PM and the tracking says the frame is being delivered today but yet the frame is Still sitting at FedEx so maybe tomorrow
Stripped down my mountain bike this morning and got all the components off that I’ll be using on the new build.

Opened up the controller, looks beefy. This controller can definitely handle more phase amps than the software is limited by. I’ll change that

So the frame weight with Moto seat is 26-ish-lbs. My original mountain bike frame was 10 pounds with seat. So gained 16 pounds, not too bad considering it’s a steel enduro frame. Got plenty of power so the weight won't be an issue.

Enduro seat installed, went straight for it didn’t even try the bicycle mount yet. Probably won’t based upon the way it looks and also being able to pinch my legs against the seat for handling.

I can tell you that 20s6p battery may not be enough for you to enjoy your ride. I have a few bikes with 20s6p packs and they are always dying before you are ready to quit. My packs are not rated at 100a though, which means you have 3.3ah cells rated to push out 5c continuous which should be a pretty good cell. The overall weight of these bikes with a rider then add wind resistance and the Watthours go fast

you will also want to upgrade the rear pogo stick shock for DNM burner shock, they are real cheap online and make a world of difference

So I’ve been working on the drop outs as this has been quite the tedious part.
There was a 2.5 mm gap between the axle and the torque arms/frame. Made some 2.5mm steel spacers, after hours of sanding and filing. The axle is extremely tight now! There is zero wiggle

I’ll post more pictures later of the drop outs with the spacers once it’s fully installed.

Also for anyone that’s following along, these updates are in real time.

Made the drop out/frame spacers with this stainless steel stock. It took lots of filing and sanding to get it just right but after many hours it is finally complete! I considered welding new dropouts but figured the spacers would be the more practical approach. As of now the spacers are not tack welded in place but it’s such a tight fit that you have to hammer them out to even get them to move. Eventually I will tack weld the spacers in place but need to do some road testing first, well also finish the rest of the build :wink:

The stainless steel stock measured at 2.8 mm thick so I had to file it down to exactly 2.5mm
That was the time-consuming part

Just got new parts delivered
240mm DNM burner
New clutch derailer with new housing/cable
Then also will upgrade my 12 V step down as seen in the picture. The old converter had a max output of 3 A so I couldn’t use my horn when the headlights were running lol
The new one has a max output of 10 A.

Pretty much finished, did some test riding! 8)
Still need to install the chain and derailer, DNM burner, new 12v step down. Then just some basic stuff like adding a couple switches for different functions probably a phone charger/usb ports.

The bike rides great, very satisfied with the build! :thumb:
It’s interesting with these huge 27.5” wheels on the Enduro frame. The rear tire barely fits, maybe 3mm of clearance because of the height of the 27.5”.. Will add motorcycle wheels soon, 19” F/R
Mainly did road testing, handles great! Did some off-roading briefly and the bike handles well even with the current pogo rear coil shock. Looking forward to doing more testing tomorrow!

I’ll keep posting updates as I finish the minor details and also add those motorcycle wheels! not looking forward to the weight gain but I know the bikes handling will improve plus the durability

Also I haven’t hacked the Sabvoton controller yet, Will just overclock and bypass the phase wire sensors in the controller. Well one set of wires will go through the sensor and the other will go around straight to the phase wires. Max phase amps as of now is 200 so that should double to 400. I’m thinking to adjust the current and phase amps to half power since it will be pulling double, then just start from there. I’m not trying to over stress my 20s6p, Or smoke my motor.

Who the heck sells short metal pieces, sold in a plastic bag?
Even Home Depot doesnt do that!
My best guess is McMaster?
Wonder how much of a premium you paid, because when it comes in a plastic bag must be some sort of higher price related to it.
I've been to Metal Supermarket franchise chain, they cut pieces to your desired length plus they also sell the off-cuts but prices are reasonable so has nothing to do with size of pc, just plastic bag

it actually wasn’t that expensive, It was $11 for the stock with shipping. Ordered it online around 9 PM and it was on my doorstep at 8 AM the next morning lol
The reason it’s in a plastic bag is because it’s sold through Amazon, everything they sell is in a plastic bag so they can keep track of items 8)

It would’ve taken me longer to get in my car to drive to my local metal supply shop :wink:

gonna feel even quicker smaller wheel ,don't worry tyre will lighten up fair bit when you burn some rubber of it 8)
I have same rear rotor and similar caliper ,gets stupidly hot , burn fingers ,don't ask how I know but I now have drilled rotor finger prints ,
can hear it making tink tink noise as I cools down ,
im not worried about burning out cheap rotor but prefer if heat not transfer to motor
saying that though my next upgrade gonna be push button regen, you could get bigger rotors next as your bike heavier than mine

Yes!! I burnt my hands many of times with these rotors, but I’ve learned now, I keep my hands away lol

Yeah my controller has an E brake function so that’s why I don’t upgrade the rotors. 50 A slows me down quick plus with the brakes. But yeah the rotor size is 203 so I think I’m maxed out? Or I think someone makes 220s. I have to Google it Lol

You’ll like the E-brake upgrade! It’ll save your brake pads, Plus it really does slow you down quickly.
