My new Mac 8T Upgraded just arrived.

I hadn't read every word of every shipping option on EM3EV so didn't realise the motor would come disassembled.

The gears are bone dry. You get given a little sachet of grease but I'm wondering what is the best way to grease the gears?

Should I just grease the gear-ring on the motor shell, or just the gears themselves? I can't rotate the gears so I can't even grease all the way around the gear anyway.

When I peeked inside my other Mac Motor there seems to be loads of grease, certainly more than I have in the available sachet.

Any help or direction most appreciated.

Hi,

Add a little grease on the ring gear in the hub, you don't need all that much grease, it will work it's way around where it needs to. We provide more than enough grease with the kit.

Feel free to email me if you have any questions, that's what I'm there for :)

Thanks
Paul (EM3ev)

Thanks for the reply cell-man, I would have emailed you direct but I was keen to get going and I thought the forums would be the fastest.

Right then, grease the ring gear it is.

Cheers,

Another issue.

According to instructions the temperature sensor wire is red with black heat shrink.

But I have two red wires with black heat shrink.

Does anyone know such one is which?

Got a multimeter? Attach one probe to the thin black wire then test resistance between that black and each of the reds. Note those two figures. Now heat the stator a bit with a hair dryer so its warm and test the resistances again. The one that changes should be the temperature sensor wire.

lucky you. I'm still awaiting for mine to come from em3ev. Got the same motor too. Post all your setup procedures when your done and help other people out!

nukezero, did you go for the DHL shipping option?

Top one. I had a long piece of heat shrink on my mine which goes right out to the end of the connector so you would identify.

The bottom wire appears to be an extension added with heat shrink to cover the join.

Email Cell_Man ( EM3EV ) and ask him to email the set up instructions prior to receiving your motor.

The red wire with the long black wrap is the temp sensor and the other red wire is the positive wire. My MAC came disassembled when I got it too but was a cinch to put back together. Paul has even updated the assembly instructions to now include using the white gear grease whereas before it wasnt mentioned. Hope that helps you.

Yep, once I got over the shock of the motor coming disassembled, the first mac I got came assembled and I didn't read the shipping options properly, my fault, the motor did go together pretty easily. The polystyrene box the motor comes in is a good stand to use while assembling.

The tricky bit is getting the phase and hall wires through the axle bolt! There's a trick to it, you slide the hall wires through first, which are all heatshrinked together, then you bend the wires at an angle, then you can curve each phase wire one by one through.

Some pics of how it comes..

I found this awesome little tool for inserting contacts into plugs.

You can use a little screwdriver but this thing is perfect.

I have found that inserting a contact into a brand new andersson connector is impossible without something to push it through, second time you can do it by hand.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/230956476196?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

it also fits the contacts on the mac connectors.

I'm not that fond of the mac connectors, I would prefer JST all round like the Crystalyte kit, it's much smaller and neater.

Does anyone replace the connectors on their Mac setup ? If so what do you use ?

No I got all sorts, just not pictured. I got thumb throttle, full twist throttle, half twist throttle, 12fet 4110 controller, 7sp. DNP freewheel.

@kudos i thought the upgrade mac version got (temperature sensor) and double phase wires= 2 x 2qmm
in the picture it seems like it only has one wire per phase?

Not sure which picture you're referring to but yes the upgraded Mac does come as you say.

Edit, agh yes looking at the picture it does look like just one wire but it's just the angle, there are actually two wires on each phase.

thanks for your answer :)

I think it's to do with postage, the volume of the two boxes makes it cheaper to send than one big box.
