some thoughts i had while doing searches earlier today for things i need to know to write my stories. it was very frustrating because i kept running across the *same* wrong versions of things, and i noted down my random thoughts during each frustrated attempt. so theyr'e sort of connected, but i didn't edit them down into a coherent whole; sorry.

i did add in some parenthetical notes or parenthetically filled in some thoughts that started out mostly in my head; i probably msised things taht leave some things incomplete enough to be less understandable. :/ it is also not spellchecked or edited for more than really big things that were incomprehensible even to me if i didn't already know what i meant.
kudseo and the viral destruction of teh intarwebz:
(my search started with the roots of various words, and how they became what they are now, which revealed things i knew but hadn't molded into a thought. )
(kudseo is a reference to the kudzu vine that can completley take over a growing area, choking out most or all of the ohter plants that were there to start with, leaving msotly or only itself)
many words become synonimous or meaning swapped simpbly because they sound similar and evolve in speech. in writing this doesn't happen as much, because it is clearer on the page, vs what someone hears, whcih can vary wildly from person to person.
(my first thought was, incorrectly, that) writing was created to preserve exact information without the rumour mill probelm. (it doesn't change the fact hta tpseech continues to evlove, to use things incorrectly, but it provides a baseline against which to check and correct. some written things haven't changed in centruies but the spoken version has significnalty changed, and that leaves us with oddnesses wiht silent letters or contractions that are still writeen out one way but said very differently, but only in *that word*, or some words like it, but not all. )
(of course, a bit more poking around on that curiousity line found that) writing was orignally about money (sumerian/babylonian clay tablet marks trrracking property exchanges). eveyrhting is about money, and ultimately manipulated by greed. :/
the interent changes taht (the ability of writing to hold a baseline for reference, for keeping information and events preserved intact for future use). it is easier to alter the records with no user-available trace. (traces exist but only to those with the technicality and authority to access them). with the internet, it is also actually easier to falsify information and spreaed it via rumourmill processes, and override reality and truth by simply flooding the information outlets with more copies of the false informaiton. pretty much lke a virus in a living body. :/
the next step in the chain is that it doesn't even take humans to directly pollute realtiy. We have created bots that can be instructed to create discussions in which they manipulate the strucutre of the informaiton, even if not the actual information, to create versions of it that are not real or that simply pollute the results of searches for information, making the real information unfindable because of the way the search engines are designed (they only provide the rsults for majority info, they do not actualyy show you all the results even if you dig deep deep down). SEO is a horrible invention, that has come very close to destroying ht eusefulness of the internet as an archive of data. every search that returns bad info then causes it to be reposted even if it is innocently as a qwuestion asking if that is correct, and now the search will find that one too, and thus promote that version of infomration as more valid than any othe rversion because it found more copies of it.
it is as if a body's own immune system was looking for "dna tags" and found more of the virus' tags than the body's own, so it began killing the body's own cells becuase they are obviously the intruder. (that's a more active proces thant he search result by itself, but overall the process has the same end result).
the truth is still there, if you already know what you are looking for. and where to find it. but that's useless, becus it doens't help anyone else find it. and whiel it is pssoble to make machines (or human groups) to promote the truth, there is no money in it, and so very few will do it, and the other gorups doiong it to promote their own specific things for their own reasons (usualy to insert their product references into it to brin gup their own seo rankings) will effectively overwrite all attempts ot fix it.
some palces have had to put huge ip range blocks in to keep ai bots out of their sites, and others have had to install sensory challenges and other things that ai could not at that time solve, forcing humans to do it eveyr time they want to access them. ufnroatunately that dosn't actually make those sites purer, what it odes is make them *less used* because the things they gatekeep with cause them to be inaccesscible to some humans, and makeit harder for others, and things that are harder are usually avoided. if there is an easier site to get into then huamns will use that one...but so will the bots. so then the humans only find the corrupt data...and becuas that site gets more clicks in the search engine results, it gets promoted higher in the search, and the protected site moves down, and gets less clicks becaus it is less visible.
and so on.
(sorry, that's all the thoughts i had before i dozed off again, this time long enough to forget the rest of the chain. i don't know how deeply true any of the thoughts are, but here they are for whatever they are worth)
