new stealthy-ish project

If you can afford the extra, get the 500w Bafang CST motor. You get much better gearing options.

thanks Agiator
good luck with your build
we would love to see the finished result :D

I saw this one too late, and I hope I'll be happy with the BPM anyway...

Hehe... I might do that, if I dare... :) Anyway Im planning on refering my experience here from the ordering, delivery, mounting and using-experience if ok for you Dylan. I found your questions, the answears and your experiences very useful for my decision-making, and someone else might find my experiences useful too :)

Hi again.

My build is more or less finished. I have build a PAS only (no throttle) system and I am more or less very pleased with the result.
I have not been able to test the bike mutch (one 12 km trip to work and back home) but thought it could be useful for some others out there to share some of my experiences so far.

I ordered the Bafang BPM 48v500w (328 RPM) rear engine in a 700c-wheel with the S12S 500w Torwue Simulation controller. Choosed the 48v/10Ah Shrink tube LifePo battery because I dont need very high range, and was interested in good value, low weight and most important: small size (it fits in a small frame bag - stealthy nice look)...

Battery: http://www.bmsbattery.com/48v/496-48v-10ah-lithium-ion-electric-bicycle-battery-pack.html

I also have the 12 pole PAS, 14-28 teeth freewheel, two brake-sensors, one LCD-display and speed sensor mounted. Ordered a lot of spare-parts, extra throttles, PAS, etc. etc. Only thing I havent mounted yet is the torwue-arms....

Ordering process was nice. Contacted BMSbattery both with email and live chat from their web-site before and after I placed my order. Swift and useful comunication. It took between 3 and 4 weeks from I placed my order until the goods arrived. Everythin I ordered was as it should and I think it had been well packed from BMS. Customs on the other hand had opened the box, - and its fair to say they are not the best "packers" around... Anyway so far - so good.

Connecting everything was a bit more diffucult than I thought beforehand. Not all the connectors pre-innstalled fits, so you have to change some of them arround. Some of the wires are to short. I had to buy some extra wire for the battery - controller wireing. The PAS-wire where also to short. I had to use the wire from my "extra" PAS to reach the controller.
Mounting the PAS turne out to be the most difficult part. I did'nt realice I had to remove both the paddels (arms) and more or less remove / loosen the whole cranck to fit the PAS correctly. I was also unlucky and destroyed some of the threads in the peddal-arm at the "gearing" side. This led to me not beeing able to remove this arm, and I had to mount the PAS at the other side of the bike. This again led to the engine only responding when I reversed the peddals... I tried to turn the magnets the "wrong way" but they are pretty sensitive and have to be mounted close to the sensor. Fortunately I solved the problem by removing one small screw that attach the sensor to the ring to fasten the sensor to the crank, and turn the sensor "up side down". This worked - and the sensor works when I peddal forward only :)

I have yet to "programe" the controller. Using the bike to work today (first ride) I noticed a few minor problems...

1) Top speed achived by engine alone was limmited to around 35 km/t (22 mph). I set up the "welcome - screen" on the LCD - display and limited my speed to max 40 km/t there (want to mount the torque-arms) before I let speed go free...
- If anyone have any suggestions to why top-speed seems limited - please feel free to advice.
2) I have to adjuste my gearing. The chain will not "fall down" to the smalles wheel (heaviest). It's impossible to "help" the engine when speed is above 32/33 km/t... Hope this adjustment will help... Otherwise im affraid I will have more moped thant bike...

Other than this Im very impressed with the setup. The PAS har a realy nice "build-up/ soft start" when i start pedaling. When used in Level 1 - the bike behaves similar to the legal setups Ive tride before.. (EU- 25km/t / 250w / PAS only).
When in level 5 its very powerfull. Nice acceleration and plenty of power for hills. I was conserned if the 328 RPM was the correct choice for me when I ordered. (Big wheels) - but so far I can only say that this was the right coice for me. My route (home - work) is a mixed journey with 50% flat areas and 50% up and down.. small hills and a few "big" (500 m max) hills mostly not wery steep but for short distances pretty steep too... Whith this engine - no problem at all.

The engine dont make mutch noice and both the PAS and the brake-sensors works perfectly.

I will try to upload a few (not very good) pictures from the buil. I hope someone else will find the information useful in some way. Sorry for my bad english - but I hope you get the "big picture" :)

Hmmm......

I think I need some help regarding my setup...

Top speed (no load - bike upside down) - full throttle is: 41 km/h.
Top speed (load - me on bike) is 34/35 km/t

I have "programed" the LCD-display setting for max speed to 60 km/t. I would expect the BPM 48v500W (328RPM) in 700 c wheel, the S12S-controller and the 48v10ah LifePo4 battery to give me higher speed than this???
Is there something I do wrong?

Hi Agiator
Nice looking build BTW
Firstly in the pictures why do you have a car wheel on the rear rack?...! lol
your top speed should be around 30mph
My same kit & battery (I have a different controller) in a 26" wheel does 28 mph (flat out no pedalling)
I suggest you unplug the pedal sensor & plug in a throttle to test
If this doesn't help try fitting a different controller (same one as I have got)
I'm pretty sure you should get 30 mph once you have done this
Cheers Dylan

Thanks Dylan, but I've tried disconnecting the pas and use throttle only, with the exact same speed results. It seems BMSBattery have sent me a wrong winding - code engine, even if I ticked the 328 rpm motor when ordering. I have sent them an email and will post their reply.

I've had some problems with the spokes and with a flat tire.... Etc.. Etc.. Have you had any problems with this?
