Hi Guys

Ive decided to build an electric bike and need some advice.
Initially I was going to go 'Mid drive' but as I want to do some trail riding, it has been suggested to me that i should go 'rear hub'.

So im thinking this kit:

And this battey:

Or perhaps this one:

Thanks in advance.

This is the bike im using, Cube Analouge, few years old.

Who advised that? For off road trail riding, assuming you don't want a motorcycle with pedals, a mid drive is the best choice.

As for your kit choice, on trails, I could kill that motor in 45 min, easy peasy.

That is not to say you cannot trail ride with that kit. I'm just saying the steepest trails could kill that motor quick. Mid drive, pretty much the limit on trail steepness is only how low a gear you have. Few trails built for bikes can kill a mid drive, though a mule trail to a mine still might.

A few months ago I was trying to decide between a hub and mid drive. This was my first ebike and I read everything I could find. Hours and hours of reading and asking questions on various forums. I was trying to be cost efficient and was told to go with a hub drive since it was cheaper. Well, it was if I purchased a no name cheap unit from China, however to get a good motor from say em3ev was going to cost as much as a mid drive. I only ride on the street and asphalt trails all of which are flat so my demands for torque was minimal. The more I looked and read the more I wanted a mid drive and that is what I bought. Eventually, I may electrify my wife's bike and if I do I think I will use a hub motor. Probably a geared MAC on the front wheel. Not that I don't like my mid drive, I just would like to have one of each.

I also spent a lot of time researching battteries, maybe even more than motors. I ended up with a 52v (really it is a 50v) Shark pack. I had some problems and returned it. Now I am not so patiently waiting for a 50v triangle pack from em3ev (they are not the people I got my original battery from). Em3ev has an excellent reputation but since they are in China it takes quite a while to get their products and the shipping is a little steep but I figured it was worth it.
